FAMILY DAY IN FLORENCE WITH KIDS

Our favorite day in Florence with the whole family

We have long considered whether we would like to visit Florence with children during our trip through Tuscany. In the end, the spirit of discovery triumphed and so it went to the big city with children and bowlers. It was clear from the start that we would make the day as relaxed and exciting as possible for everyone. This included not only the extra large portion of ice cream, but also a child-friendly plan.

Sightseeing with kids in Florence

We started the day trip to Florence as early as possible so that we could have a look at the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore before the large number of visitors. With the city scooters, which we had brought with us, the city tour continued quickly. Because we absolutely wanted to see both the oldest bridge Ponte Vecchio and the Palazzo Vecchio. Fortunately, everything is just a few meters apart. In between we stopped, marveled, paid a visit to a huge carousel and talked. For the rest of the day, however, we are determined to just let ourselves drift around the city.

Child-friendly places in Florence

From the beginning, the question was where to go in Florence with kids? When the midday sun hits the city we wanted to go somewhere cool. The Galileo Museum was a great option to stay in the shadow and to entertain the kids with some interesting stuff. The conclusion of the children was after a few minutes “everything here is extremely exciting”! We strolled through the different departments, saw gigantic telescopes and interesting models of planetary movements. There is also a small children’s play area on the ground floor. There, the children could try out different experiments as little researchers.

Restaurants with kids in Florence

The city center is teeming with Italian restaurants, but they didn’t seem suitable for children. During our preliminary search, we heard about the absolutely delicious and typical Florentine sandwiches. Many of these small restaurants have the most creative creations. We decided to go to Schiaccia Matta Firenze. While a crispy sandwich was prepared for the kids on request, we spoiled ourselves with the Finocchiona Burrata Radicchio and truffle sauce. So we could all enjoy our lunch together in an informal atmosphere. By the way, they have finest craft beer for beer lovers!

After our day in Florence, we all agreed – it was worth it! There is only one thing we would do differently – we definitely do not choose a summer month for the next visit.
