BIKE TOURS AT MILLSTÄTTER LAKE WITH KIDS

Explore Lake Millstatt with kids and bike!

Exploring Lake Millstatt by bike is particularly enjoyable due to its varied diversity. Especially with kids, you can easily undertake individual sections of the circular bike trail. Of course, an attractive destination for the bike tour should not be missing.

We were on the road with our woom bikes, which the kids and we have loved for a long time. Not only are they a lot of fun to ride, but they also make it easy to take some of the bumps on the bike path.

If you ride along the north shore, you’re almost at the level of the lake. The direct view of the blue is simply beautiful! Sometimes, however, you have to pass the road. But for the cyclists is provided with a sufficiently wide bike path.

The tour of the north shore led us to our destination, Cape 4613. Here you sit almost on the water, because the large terrace is built into the lake. Deep windows down to the ground allow a great view of the lake and the mountains! For refreshment for the cyclists there are small and large snacks. Especially the breakfast menu is extensive, so you can stop here for a (second) breakfast.

You get to know a completely different side of the lake on the eastern shore. In Döbriach, the bike path runs along a side arm of Lake Millstätter See. It is worthwhile to make a detour to the mouth of the river into the lake. There is a sandbank that you can walk across and the difference in temperature between the cold water from the mountains and the warm lake quickly becomes clear. The bike tour continues past beach resorts and cafes. Just before the bike path enters the forest, there is another stop at Charlie’s Seelounge. The kids are thrilled by the sand play box and the parents by the lounge atmosphere.

Finally, the road climbs a bit and the bike path runs above the lake. The trees provide pleasant shade. The path leads past a small waterfall. Again and again, a dreamlike view of the lake opens up between the trees. Since this section is generally very popular with cyclists, there can be a bit more traffic here, especially on weekends. For the bike tour it is advisable if the kids are already experienced cyclists and ride safely on the paths. A special experience is the bike ferry from Schlossvilla to Millstatt. This saves you the steep part between Schlossvilla and Seeboden.

The way back led us to the lido Sittlinger. A dip in the refreshing lake was just what we were in the mood for after the bike ride. The lido has a large lawn with playground, but especially a water playground in front of the lake. At the boat rental you can rent everything from pedal boats to electric boats. And if you want to eat in the restaurant Sittlinger with a view of the lake, you are well advised to make a reservation in advance.

Whether for an excursion or for a vacation, the time spent at Lake Millstatt will remain in vivid memory!
