A visit to the Elbe river is a must when you are in Hamburg. The Elbecamp is a great place to spend a dream day as a family. Just outside the city center, you can stretch your feet in the sand here in a relaxed atmosphere. Beach snacks are provided. The kids love digging in the mud, and there’s plenty of it here on the shore. A day here truly feels like a short vacation by the sea.

Just outside the city, the organic farm Wulksfelde is a real highlight for families. Animals and a playground for the kids and homemade cakes for the parents. Besides, you can learn all kinds of things about organic farming, stock up on fresh products from the farm store for home and enjoy the day in the fresh air.

You can get even closer to animals at the Pausen-Hof, a true gem in the midst of nature. Admittedly, the farm is a bit of a drive from Hamburg, but it’s worth it. Because on site you can experience the sweet alpacas, walk with them and feed them. That pleases young and old.

The coolest places for playground pirates

For kids who love to let off steam in playgrounds, Hamburg has a few to offer. There are several playgrounds right in the middle of the beautiful Planten und Blomen park. Our favorite is the children’s playground, with the little mountains to climb around on. Just the right place to take a break from sightseeing on vacation in Hamburg with kids.

If you are in the Hafencity in Hamburg with your kids, you should definitely plan a stop at the Grasbrook playground. Kids love to hide out on the big pirate ship, as well as in the tent-like huts. As an adult, you’ll enjoy the view of the Elbphilharmonie from the playground.

Bad weather program for vacation in Hamburg with kids

Hamburg is not known for its good weather, so if it rains, you need a bad weather program for the kids. We have two favorite places ready for you, which certainly not everyone knows.

The CHOCOVERSUM chocolate museum, tucked away in the heart of Hamburg’s city center, is the perfect address for a trip to Hamburg with kids when the weather outside is uncomfortable. Because in the museum everything revolves around the production of chocolate. While it is shown how the bitter bean becomes sweet chocolate, you can also create your own chocolate bar. That’s where the sun immediately rises for all kids.

The selection of cafés in Hamburg where kids are expressly welcome is manageable. One of our absolute favorite cafés is the Tribe Yoga Base with integrated Plant Based Café in Hamburg Eimsbüttel. There’s plenty of room for the kids here, because outside opening hours the café virtually becomes a yoga studio.
Smoothie bowls and fresh bread with homemade spreads fortify you for the rest of the day. Or you can enjoy a piece of cake with a clear conscience, which is mostly gluten- and sugar-free here.
