HIKING WITH CHILDREN AT LAKE WÖRTHERSEE IN CARINTHIA

Hiking with children in the footsteps of the composer Gustav Mahler!

If you would like to go on a short hike with children in Carinthia at lake Wörthersee, the composer’s cottage of the famous composer Gustav Mahler is a nice destination for your family trip. It is located in Maiernigg in the eastern bay of the Wörthersee not far from Klagenfurt. There is a parking lot from which the way to the composer’s cottage starts directly.

There is a short hike up the hill, which is very easy to do with children. You will pass a small ruin, which invites you to climb. There is a small river to cross. The ascent is very manageable, so that it is easy to master even with small children.

When you arrive at the composer’s cottage you have a great view through the forest to the lake. This view probably inspired Gustav Mahler while composing. Hence the name of the cottage. The small seats right in front of the cottage invite you to have a snack. In summer there are occasional concerts here. And there is a small museum in the house, which can be visited during selected opening hours.
