You’ll find a hike full of adventure, discoveries, and even more fun on the nature and environmental adventure trail on the Sattelberg in Ramsau am Dachstein. The Sattelberg is known throughout the region as a children’s mountain and lives up to its name on this tour.

A whole 15 stations are spread over the route of 4 kilometers, on which everything revolves around nature and the environment. You can feel fossilized shells, jump over tree roots and play fun quizzes along the way. Not to mention the impressive mountain scenery throughout the hike. Along the way, you’ll come across the Sattelberghütte, where it’s worth stopping for a bite to eat.

You can park at the Kinderberg Sattelberg parking lot. The hike with kids starts directly from there. First, you pass farms and a hotel. Just follow the signs, so you can not go wrong and after 5 minutes walk you will be at the entrance to the nature and environmental adventure trail in Ramsau. From there, the hiking fun around the Sattelberg begins.

Best entertainment and conversation material on the family hike in Styria

If you are traveling with the stroller, you can take the stroller path directly to the Sattelberghütte in the first part of the hike. For all others, it goes first through the forest and then over a short steep climb to the summit cross of the Sattelberg. A child’s play with the exciting stations and funny quiz questions (the answer to the quiz questions are on the next sign) at the edge of the way.

Quickly entered into the summit book and continue to the next station. On display boards, knowledge about forest inhabitants, environmental protection, trees and their current state is conveyed in an understandable way for children. This also gives you directly great conversation stuff until the next station.

Our kids wear their favorite parts of namuk, the world’s best outdoor clothing for all nature adventurers. Especially the children’s backpacks have done it to the two. They are not only optically true eye-catchers, but also true space miracles. Chest and hip belt make the backpacks suitable for the child’s back and during the picnic they serve as a seat pad in no time. The perfect companions for all expeditions.

Our highlight on the hike on the Sattelberg was definitely the petrified corals and mussels from the Dachstein. A piece of the past that impressed the kids very much.

Over serpentines downhill past the high seat with binoculars and the cone station, you direct directly to the Sattelberghütte. There is a true play paradise for the children. From the petting zoo to a water playground and a forest slide, everything is offered. As parents, however, you do not go out empty-handed. The Sattelberghütte is known for its good cuisine. Be sure to try the Kaspress dumpling soup with spicy Steirerkas.

After feasting and playing extensively, the last piece runs back to the parking lot as if by itself. You should definitely not miss the hike with children on the Sattelberg on a family holiday in Schladming am Dachstein .

Extra tip: Even with light rainy weather, the way is also well feasible. Several families have confirmed this to us. You can find even more tips for the next family hike in Styria here and if you are still looking for great accommodation, “The village in the city” is the right place for you.
