Family hike in Styria with fabulous views!
You’ll find a hike full of adventure, discoveries, and even more fun on the nature and environmental adventure trail on the Sattelberg in Ramsau am Dachstein. The Sattelberg is known throughout the region as a children’s mountain and lives up to its name on this tour.
A whole 15 stations are spread over the route of 4 kilometers, on which everything revolves around nature and the environment. You can feel fossilized shells, jump over tree roots and play fun quizzes along the way. Not to mention the impressive mountain scenery throughout the hike. Along the way, you’ll come across the Sattelberghütte, where it’s worth stopping for a bite to eat.
You can park at the Kinderberg Sattelberg parking lot. The hike with kids starts directly from there. First, you pass farms and a hotel. Just follow the signs, so you can not go wrong and after 5 minutes walk you will be at the entrance to the nature and environmental adventure trail in Ramsau. From there, the hiking fun around the Sattelberg begins.
Best entertainment and conversation on the family hike in Styria
If you are traveling with a stroller, you can take the stroller path directly to the Sattelberg hut in the first part of the hike. For everyone else, it’s first through the forest and then over a short steep climb up to the summit cross of the Sattelberg. A children’s game with exciting stations and funny quiz questions (the answer to the quiz questions are always on the next sign) along the way.
Quickly sign the summit book and continue to the next station. On display boards, knowledge about forest inhabitants, environmental protection, trees and their current condition is conveyed in a way that kids can understand. This also gives them something to talk about until the next station.
Our highlight on the hike at the Sattelberg was the fossilized corals and shells from the Dachstein. A piece of the past that impressed the kids very much.
Over serpentines downhill past the high seat with binoculars and the cone station, you head straight for the Sattelberg hut. There, a true play paradise awaits the kids. From a petting zoo to a water playground and a forest slide, everything is on offer. As a parent one goes out however by no means empty. The Sattelberghütte is known for its good cuisine. Be sure to try the Kaspressknödelsuppe with spicy Steirerkas.
After feasting and playing, the last part back to the parking lot goes by itself. The hike with kids on the Sattelberg should not be missed during your family vacation in Schladming am Dachstein.
