ON THE TRACKS OF THE GOLD DIGGERS IN HEILIGENBLUT

A journey back in time to the gold diggers of Heiligenblut near the Großglockner!

Very close to the Großglockner you find the village Heiligenblut. Here, deep in the mountains, the former gold digger village Heiligenblut is hidden. If you are with your kids at the Großglockner, you should consider including the detour to the gold digger village Heiligenblut on your route. A narrow road leads up to the village. The last meters are to walk by foot from the parking lot to the village. This gives a first impression of how laborious it must have been in the past to reach a gold mine alone.

Arriving in the gold digger village Heiligenblut, you feel like you have travelled back into the past. The water flows over old wooden water wheels. The focus, however, is on the wide, shallow river, which is supposed to contain gold and various other rocks. The equipment for the small and large gold diggers can be borrowed on site, if you don’t have your own rubber boots with you. In cooler temperatures it is worthwhile to bring rain trousers and rain jacket for the children.

Equipped with spade and bowl, the gold panning can begin. In order to spot the very small washing gold you need a little patience and good eyes. There are also other shiny stones that come close to washing gold, which have caused a similar enthusiasm among the children and were collected diligently. Regardless of how much you find with the children, it is great fun to go treasure hunting, wade through the river and enjoy the coolness that comes with it, especially in summer!
