Family-friendly hike to the crocus meadow on the Heuberg!
Spring is finally here, and it is the perfect time to kick off the hiking season. A great choice is a family hike in the Chiemgau from Duftbräu to the Daffnerwaldalmen on the Heuberg. Those who take on the short climb up to the alpine huts are rewarded at the top with the famous crocus meadow of the Chiemgau region and a fantastic view of Lake Simsee.
The best starting point is the Duftbräu parking area. However, it tends to fill up quickly on weekends. As an alternative, you can drive about 400 meters back to the Schweibern parking area.
Spring is finally here, and it is the perfect time to kick off the hiking season. One wonderful way to spark that spring excitement with the kids is a hike from Duftbräu to the Daffnerwaldalmen on the Heuberg. Those who take on the short climb up to the alpine huts are rewarded with the famous crocus meadow of the Chiemgau region.
The Duftbräu parking area is a good starting point. However, it fills up quickly on weekends. As an alternative, simply drive about 400 meters back to the Schweibern parking area.
The hike begins by following the signs for circular route 40, which first leads to the Duftbräu waterfalls. After about 20 minutes you will already reach the first play highlight for the kids. A large meadow with a small stream is the perfect spot for a first break.
The next section of the hike becomes a bit more varied, with gentle changes in elevation and mostly forest paths. Children will need a little climbing spirit as they make their way over tree roots and stones along the trail, which makes the hike even more exciting.
After a little more than an hour, you arrive at the beautiful meadow of the Daffnerwaldalmen. In spring, the entire meadow is covered in blooming crocuses. The view is simply wonderful. On one side you can see the impressive Kaiser Mountains, and on the other the deep blue waters of Lake Simsee.
At the moment, the Daffnerwaldalmen offer food and drinks to go. All that is missing is a picnic blanket to settle down on the wide meadow and enjoy the incredible view. In normal times, the alpine huts are open year round.
For the return, you can either take the same route back down or continue following the circular trail signs. Of course, this hike on the Heuberg is also a fantastic destination with children outside the spring season.
