FAMILY HIKE THROUGH THE MAISINGER GORGE

In the footsteps of the Ice Age on the hike through the Maisinger Gorge with kids!

During the last ice age, the Maisinger Gorge was formed in the Fünf-Seen-Land in the middle of Upper Bavaria. Today, the gorge is a great destination for hiking with kids, which has a great experience potential for the kids to offer and definitely not boring. The family hike is therefore also suitable for the kids who do not yet have great hiking experience.

The trail starts at the Starnberg waterworks. You can either park your car there or walk the short distance from the Starnberg S-Bahn station to the starting point. By the way, 80 percent of the water used in Starnberg comes fresh from the Maisinger Gorge, because the drinking water quality is excellent.

The first part of the hike with kids runs along the stream and across extensive meadows. Over a wooden bridge you reach the beech forest, which provides a lot of shade, especially in the hot summer months. Idyllically it goes along the brook through the Maisinger gorge. Kids especially love this section of the trail, because both the water and numerous steep slopes and small half-caves make nature in the Maisinger Gorge a true play paradise. So it can happen that you are on the road for the total distance of 3 km a whole two hours.

The last part of the hike runs through the village of Pöcking. At the main road, you turn right and after a few meters, you can already see the Georg Ludwig inn. We especially love the break in this great restaurant. There is a large playground and the Bavarian food is always delicious. Although there are no French fries on the menu, there are great children’s dishes and the best-mashed potatoes far and wide. Parents can enjoy Bavarian classics and seasonal delicacies, such as wild garlic dumplings. For dessert, the Kaiserschmarrn is absolutely recommended.

After the beer garden visit has been savored to the fullest, it’s time to move on. Either one runs directly back or pays the Maisinger lake still another attendance. By the way, there is another beer garden hidden there – the Maisinger Seehof.

In summer, you should definitely pack a bathing suit for the kids. In addition, our kids were very happy about the carving knife and magnifying glass they brought with them. There is so much to discover.
