CITY TRIP TO LYON WITH KIDS

Discovering Lyon with kids made easy!

Discovering Lyon with children is really easy. The sights are easy to explore by foot and there is always a playground on the sidewalk.

From the 16th to the 19th century, Lyon was the world-famous silk metropolis. Today you can still find many memories of this time in the city, as well as in Hotel Silky. Families with children find an excellent night nest and especially enjoy the spacious rooms. We liked the charm of the family-friendly city hotel in Lyon. With a French breakfast we start our day right in the hotel.

Due to the central location of the hotel, we are right in the downtown area and visit weekly market, which is located along the Saône. We stroll trough stalls and try a piece of cheese here and there. The French markets are always worth a visit.

Sightseeing in Lyon with children

We continue walking over the bridge to the other side of the Saône. Our destination is the Notre-Dame de Fourvière. It is only a few meters before we reach the valley station of the cog railway (Vieux Lyon). It works well to enter the train with a stroller. Also good to know: kids hop on the train for free. Once at the top we enjoy the magnificent view over the whole city and of course we also take a look at the great basilica.

We decide to go down by foot because on the way is another attraction in Lyon waiting – the old Roman theater. The kids feel like they’re on an adventure playground and immediately discover the echo in the arena. It is clapped and whistled. The way down is pretty steep. Be careful when going down with your little ones.

Restaurants in Lyon with children

Now we are all really hungry! Lyon is known as the restaurant capital of France. Traditional bouchons, starred kitchens and international restaurants are here in a high density. Gastronomy plays a big role in the city. If you love food and like to celebrate is just right in Lyon. Families with children are welcome at almost every restaurant. They offer a varied children’s menu and often crayons or a nice book on top. The Brasserie Le Nord is such an example. A reservation is a must, as the restaurant is one of the city’s most popular.

Vaporetto in Lyon with children

After having eaten extensively, we go for a relaxed boat trip on the Saône. The Vaporetto stop is not far and we go to board at the station Saint Paul. Another highlight in Lyon with children. Viewing the sights of the city from another perspective. We drive up and down the river and get off at the stop Bellecour. Arriving at Place Bellecour, the children enjoy the playground on the square. Playgrounds for different age groups are built on two different surfaces.

Around the square there are many cafes and bakeries. We brought ice cream and cake to the playground and enjoyed it there in a big round.

Another hotel that you can consider in Lyon with kids is Mama Shelter. It is a bit out of the way and offers first-class family rooms, a play area and a spacious roof terrace.
