There’s a kiosk by the water, a playground and some lovely Asian gardens!

The Westpark in Munich, which was originally designed for the 1983 International Horticultural Exhibition, is a great place to relax and enjoy some culture. There are lots of different gardens to enjoy, including flower and perennial gardens, an alpine garden, a rose garden, historic gardens and an idyllic lake. One of the standout features is the East Asia ensemble, which includes a striking Nepalese pagoda and some lovely Asian-style gardens. There’s a water playground for kids which is great fun in the summer.
The park is also home to “Gans am Wasser”, an amazing kiosk that really impressed us. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a relaxed beer garden atmosphere in a unique and colourful setting. You’ll find plenty of shade under colourful umbrellas, while loungers by the water are ideal for relaxing, and the French fries are simply unbeatable – we promise! On Sundays, there’s even dancing in the pavilion, creating a wonderful atmosphere for all ages.
Water playground: summer fun for kids
Right next door is a unique water playground that will really get children excited, especially in summer. There’s a big tower with a slide surrounded by water, which kids can play in. Kids can play and cool off here without necessarily getting wet.
A trip to Asia in the middle of Westpark
Another great thing about Westpark is the fascinating East Asia ensemble, which combines tranquillity and culture. You can admire Europe’s first free-standing Buddha statue in a Thai temple and the traditional Japanese garden, which was gifted to us by our twin city of Sapporo. Just a short climb leads to the impressive pagoda made of dark wood.
You can easily reach Westpark on the U6 underground line. From there, it is only a few metres to the beautiful green oasis. There are plenty more secret places in and around Munich to discover here.
