Probably the most beautiful accommodation in Vienna with children

The Hotel Altstadt Vienna is located directly in the artistic center of Vienna and is a true pearl. From the outside, the house looks inconspicuous, but as soon as the doors open, you enter a world bubbling with modern art and honest cordiality. Everywhere you look, bright and beaming faces. It’s no coincidence, people come first at Altstadt Vienna, and so do the staff.

And something else is special: every room is different – completely different. But they all have one thing in common: art and good taste are never neglected. The individual rooms, some of which have been specially designed by artists, are spread over 5 floors. For families there are rooms with a small kitchenette or the room with connecting door designed by Andi Lackner. In the master bedroom, one feels directly transported to the baroque era. The children’s room is the smallest room in the hotel, but you sleep the highest. With the bunk bed and the elegant blue wall color, the room reminds you of the Orient Express. The guests in room #55 are cozy and very comfortable, even the children think so!

The Viennese attitude to life is at home here. In the morning, a breakfast buffet awaits in the lounges on the second floor, which leaves nothing to be desired. But it goes even further, in the afternoon tea and cake are traditionally served. Not only do you look at the beautiful modern artworks on the walls, but you also have a view of the church of St. Ulrich at the same time. In the evening, you can enjoy a drink on the roof terrace away from the hustle and bustle of the city, while the children are already dreaming in their beds.

There really is no better oasis in Vienna! Here you can read more about the family-friendly accommodation in Vienna, the Altstadt Vienna.

Child-friendly places in Vienna – that you can discover together during your visit.

Museums in Vienna that inspire children and parents. Museum culture is very important in Vienna and is therefore already made accessible to children. Almost every museum offers activities and play stations. Here are three museums that we particularly liked.

Museumsquartier with the ZOOM Children’s Museum

The Museumsquartier is very centrally located and only a few meters away from the Altstadt Vienna. Great museums for every taste are represented there, but also a beautiful courtyard. Cafés, restaurants, colorful benches and plenty of space for the kids invite you to stroll and enjoy. As a first point of contact, the Kinderinfo Wien is highly recommended. There you will find comprehensive tips on all leisure activities and an indoor playground for the kids. Our favorite museum in Vienna, the ZOOM Museum, is right next door. Here the kids can be creative to their heart’s content, do crafts, research, play or marvel. You don’t get out of the ZOOM Museum so quickly. After a visit to the children’s museum, you can get something to eat in the jungle café. Click here to go to your favorite place!

Immerse yourself in the world of animals at the House of the Sea

Also within walking distance of the Old Town Vienna is the House of the Sea. In the 11-story building, you not only get to meet all kinds of animals, but also overlook Vienna in all its beauty. The children were especially impressed by the sharks and the snakes. The exhibition about plastic in the sea is also wonderfully prepared for children. After the visit, it’s straight to the playground in Esterhazypark. Here you can go to your favorite place!

Live a day like a prince and princess in the children’s museum Schönbrunn Palace

Schönbrunn Palace belongs to Vienna like the Wiener Schnitzel. And Vienna wouldn’t be Vienna if Schönbrunn Palace didn’t have a program for children. That’s why you can follow in the footsteps of Sissi and Franz at the Children’s Museum at Schönbrunn Palace. Immediately after arrival, the whole family is allowed to dress up in royal clothes. This is not only fun for children! Then it’s off on a discovery tour to learn about life in the castle in the past. Wigs may be styled according to taste, old kitchen utensils are inspected and in the playroom the children can find out what toys the children of that time had. In summer there is a maze and a labyrinth in the castle park. Click here to go to your favorite place!

Playgrounds to take a break during the city tour

A variety of playgrounds for every age group in the city park

After the city tour between St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Hofburg Palace and the Vienna State Opera, a break is due. That’s why we love the Stadtpark. It’s a great park with small food trucks selling mostly coffee and pastries and a large play area for the kids. Every age group has its taste. Either on the skater course, the soccer field or the classic playground. The park is a welcome opportunity to take a short break during the city tour.

Detour to the Esterhazy Park after the museum visit

Right next to the House of the Sea, in the adjacent Esterhazy Park, a small knight’s castle awaits to be conquered, as well as countless other playground equipment. Directly in front of the playground there are also wooden deckchairs. If you are in the lucky situation that a short moment of relaxation is possible here. Click here to go to your favorite place!

Hidden playground in the Alfred-Grünwald-Park directly at Naschmarkt

Naschmarkt and then off to the playground for a lap in the race car. For the playground is especially important as a visitor in Vienna to know that behind the high steel doors quite great playgrounds are hidden. If you’re not used to playgrounds being so closed off, you may well be surprised. Click here for your favorite playground!

Restaurants in Vienna with kids

Around the Hotel Altstadt Vienna, numerous hip restaurants are waiting to be discovered. ULRICH is one of them. It is particularly suitable for families because of its quiet location next to St. Ulrich Church in the lively 7th district. Throughout the day, the ULRICH provides delicious dishes, conjured up from products from the region. Just the right location for a light lunch.

Eating the best Viennese Schnitzel at the Schwarzer Kameel

What would Vienna be without a real Wiener Schnitzel. At the traditional restaurant Zum Schwarzen Kameel, you don’t just get any schnitzel, but in our opinion, the very best. Super tender on the inside and the breading is nice and crispy. Together with a salad, the portion is easily enough for an adult and a child.

Every dish a poem in the Labstelle

We discovered this slow-food restaurant on one of our first visits to Vienna together and have been returning ever since. The restaurant is somewhat hidden in a small passage in the center of the city, but what comes on the table takes you directly on a trip to nature. Only what is growing and thriving lands creatively prepared on the plates. Even the bread itself is prepared in the kitchen of the Labstelle. Heavenly! For us, the Labstelle is the place to celebrate food and togetherness. You can find out exactly where the Labstelle is hiding in our linked Google Maps map with all our favorite places.

Eating in the former greenhouse of the imperial family – Palmenhaus

A green oasis awaits you in the Palm House. In the past, the greenhouse and the adjacent castle garden were used for the relaxation of the imperial family. Today, Austrian and Mediterranean dishes are served for young and old. Especially with little kids, the Palm House is a great tip, because there are high chairs and even painting materials directly to the table. Right after that, it’s off to the butterfly house next door.

Oriental delights at NENI on the Naschmarkt

A must on any visit to Vienna is the Naschmarkt. The NENI, which is already known from some major German cities, has its origins here. With the finest oriental dishes you can enjoy yourself here and for dessert stroll past the ZOTTER chocolate. Afterwards, head straight for the playground in Alfred-Grünwald-Park, or perhaps the Prater?

The best way to cool off in summer is with an ice cream from Eis Geissler.

The ice cream from Eis Geissler is on everyone’s lips. Creamy milk ice cream is prepared from high-quality ingredients. Here you can find an overview of all stores in Vienna.

Summer excursions in Vienna with children
Bathing at the Old Danube

The Old Danube is a great destination for the whole family for a hot summer afternoon. After a few stops by subway you can already reach the Old Danube. Addresses are the following for family:

Strandbad Alte Donau: especially small children get their money’s worth here.
Naturfreunde Alte Donau: A cozy spot away from the hustle and bustle. Here you can meet the real Viennese. Playground and private jetty are included.
Pedal boating: grab one right on the riverbank and off you go!

Excursions outside Vienna with children
Trip to the forest educational playground “Am Himmel

Unfortunately, our own time was too short, but both Verena from Goldenen Ochsen and Kinderinfo Wien told us about “Am Himmel”. Therefore we quote here briefly: “The playground is located on the outskirts of the city, actually already in the Vienna Woods. The address alone sounds heavenly 😉 It is easy to reach by public transport. Take a cobblestone road up to the Cobenzl parking lot stop. There you can also make a detour at the children’s farm at the Cobenzl estate or a short one-hour hike. Or you can choose the direct route.” Continue here.

Excursion to the Heurigen – Mayer at the Nussberg

If you ever need a break from the hustle and bustle of bustling Vienna, a trip to the Heurigen is just the thing. They are mainly located in the north of Vienna. The Heuriger Mayer is a good place for a hike up the Nussberg, taking the streetcar to the starting point beforehand. Or you can drive directly up by car. Once you arrive at the wine tavern, you have a wonderful view of the wine valleys. In a relaxed atmosphere, you can enjoy a glass of wine or two. For the kids there is a large sandbox. But also the surrounding meadow is perfect for playing. The relaxation factor is particularly high if you get hold of one of the deck chairs. Alternatively, the numerous beer tables invite you to socialize. In addition to the excellent wine, the Brotzeitbrettl are also of the best quality. Click here for your favorite place!

Travel companion for children’s skin – the care series from SOPHIE’S UNIVERSE in travel format

When it comes to skin, no matter what age, the rule is to use as few chemicals as possible. Since my childhood, my mother has taught me this and set an example for me. Natural cosmetics have been an integral part of my own family ever since. The children immediately fell in love with the children’s care products from SOPHIE’S UNIVERSE. They smell delicately of lavender and rosemary. Among other things, nature-certified raw materials and raw materials from controlled organic cultivation are used. The children noticed the high quality of SOPHIE’S UNIVERSE right away, because the shampoo does not burn their eyes. A huge plus! By the way, the SOPHIE’S UNIVERSE care series is also available in practical travel sizes. By the way, you can read more about valuable travel companions here.
