A FAMILY DAY IN ALLGAEU

Get to know the Allgäu with children from its most beautiful side!

When you think of vacation in the Allgaeu, you immediately have the image of picturesque green meadows with a multitude of cows in your head or a large portion of steaming cheese spaetzle with fried onions. Not bad, but it goes even better, because in this post we reveal to you the most beautiful places that we have discovered in the Unterallgäu for families. Because one thing is clear to discover there is so much for young and old.

We start our day in our favorite accommodation d’Kammer. In the former farmhouse, 3 sleeping chambers have been created with style and attention to detail. Where the farm used to be, you will now find a colorful playground for the kids, space for a campfire and much more. Julia pampers guests, literally, with a breakfast menu unlike any hotel has seen. What’s on the table is either homemade or comes from the surrounding villages. The dishes change daily and you can be surprised what Julia conjures up for you. One thing is for sure, it will inspire you. Long we remain sitting at the breakfast table and the Kids play in the yard with the Kettcar or tinker in the Barn with wood. So cozy vacation can be.

After we have finally torn ourselves away from the breakfast table, we feel like moving. We set off for the hiking parking lot Unterau 10 minutes away and walk off in direction Iller suspension bridge. Here the bill with the Allgaeu cliché goes. The path leads through a mixed forest, where you spy a squirrel here and there, past beehives and spacious meadows, a farm with a large cow pasture and finally the mountain view. The kids have so much to explore on the varied hike and only get a little tired when they arrive at the picnic meadow. From d’Kammer we have taken a carving knife and carve sticks for the stick bread that we will make in the evening.

After arriving back at the hikers’ parking lot, we head to the Waldcafé. This is only a stone’s throw away and an idyllic place to recharge our batteries. We walk the last few meters from the parking lot and see the gigantic swing from afar. An absolute magnet for the children and we all swing in turn towards the mountains. After that, we head for the café. In the afternoon, you can enjoy the last sunbeams and enjoy coffee and cake. There is also a small Fairtrade store selling local products. With the small playground in the café, the large meadow and the adjacent forest and on top of the huge swing, the children have plenty of opportunities to play.

If you prefer to start the day with a hike right outside your door, you can go on this adventure hike with kids in the Allgaeu or jet off to Kaufbeuren and visit the lovely Katinka in her Concept Store Little Sister. There you will find the most beautiful Scandinavian interior novelties and loving for the family everyday life.

Before heading back to the most beautiful sleeping place in the Allgaeu, we still look in the Farmers Museumby. This is also located in Illerbeuren and shows in a vivid way how life was in the past. Through the again prepared farmhouses you can march relaxed and examine the small doors, short beds and much more. There is also a changing program of craftsmanship, which is thus brought closer to the kids. Those who take the path toward the bowling alley will pass animal enclosures and can look out for the Swabian Big Five. Arriving at the ancient bowling alley, a climbing playground and a restaurant await.

But now we are really exhausted and ready for the evening. With a nice campfire we make ourselves comfortable outside in the garden of d’Kammer and bake stick bread in the embers. For those who prefer to eat outside, we can recommend the restaurant URTYP in the neighboring village. There, a lot of value is placed on high-quality products from local producers. You can taste that. In summer, the children can let off steam on the place with water games.

Happy we fall into our beds and look forward to being woken up the next day by the cows grazing directly opposite or by the fine breakfast.
