As soon as it opens, the beach bar draws you in with its laid-back vibe, delicious drinks, and dishes made from local organic ingredients. While parents kick back, the kids are all set: a giant sandbox with a wooden horse, plenty of sand toys, a trampoline, a game trailer full of board games, and even a little chicken coop keep everyone happy.

The Schwaiblbar is just steps from Lake Starnberg and the Ambach recreation area. There are several shoreline spots to settle in, and the gentle access to the water is perfect for little swimmers. Looking for variety? Rent a SUP and glide across the lake – a relaxed family day is guaranteed!

The Most Beautiful Lake for Families: Wörthsee

Wörthsee is undoubtedly one of the most stunning family-friendly lakes around Munich. Crystal-clear water, shallow shores, and wide green spaces make it an ideal family destination.

Seekiosk Rossschwemme – A Family-Friendly Kiosk with Flair

A real highlight at Wörthsee is the Seekiosk Rossschwemme. You’ll find a large lawn with shady spots, perfect for families. The food is a treat too – sweet potato fries, tarte flambée, fresh Dinzler coffee, and homemade cakes. Right next door is a playground that keeps kids happily entertained.

El Kiosko – A Touch of the Mediterranean at Wörthsee

Not far away, another culinary hotspot awaits: El Kiosko. With tapas, bowls, and homemade lemonade, this kiosk brings Mediterranean vibes to Bavaria. Perfect for a relaxed lakeside lunch while the kids play.

Osterseen – Swimming Bliss in Pure Nature

The Osterseen aren’t your typical family swimming lake, but they’re a hidden treasure for those seeking tranquility. This group of connected small lakes and ponds lies south of Lake Starnberg, surrounded by unspoiled forests and meadows.
A short walk leads you to a natural swimming spot with a grassy area, a fallen tree trunk, and shallow, crystal-clear water – the perfect setting for peaceful family time in nature. Kids can play freely in and by the water. Just don’t forget water shoes – the shoreline and lakebed are dotted with small stones, not sand.

Lake Chiemsee – Seewirt’s Beach House

Don’t underestimate the southern shore of Lake Chiemsee near the village of Übersee, especially when visiting with kids. It’s easy to reach from the highway, and parking is nearby. A short walk along the Julius-Exter-Promenade brings you to Seewirt’s Beach House, where inviting lounge chairs on a lakeside terrace await.
If you prefer to move around first, keep walking and you’ll soon reach the playground – complete with climbing tower, spring riders, and a slackline. What a view to enjoy a swing!

Steinsee – A Mini Holiday by the Lake

Heading to the southern lakes around Munich on weekends can be a gamble – traffic jams, full parking lots, and packed lawns are common. That’s why we love going in a different direction. One of our favorite family lakes is the Steinsee in Ebersberg.
The lakeside outdoor pool is a family oasis. The lawn stretches from the hill down to the shaded shore. We love finding a spot under the trees by the water – pure relaxation. It truly feels like a day of vacation.

Lake Starnberg – Beach Bar at Kleines Seehaus

Kleines Seehaus is the perfect place to soak up the summer. Located directly on Lake Starnberg, it offers stunning views of the lake and the Alps. Total vacation vibes!
Lounge chairs and soft sand invite you to relax like you’re at the beach. The beach bar serves coffee, drinks, and food – with a daily-changing menu that includes everything from shrimp to burgers to fresh salads.

Lake Ammersee – Relaxed Family Time

When we visit Lake Ammersee with kids, Lenas am See is always on the list. The food is amazing, all year round – showcasing the best the region has to offer.
Right next door is the public lake access at Strandbad Utting. You can easily combine both places for a perfect family day by the water.

Weitsee – A Two-in-One Adventure: Hiking & Swimming

The family hike to Weitsee starts in Reit im Winkl and covers around 8 km. Don’t forget to pack your swimsuits in your hiking backpack – this lake is simply too beautiful to pass up.
From afar, you can already spot the swimming area, and the kids’ excitement grows. Once those swimsuits are on, it’s straight into the cool water! This mountain lake is a magical place to take a long break after your family hike.

Small but Mighty: Weßlinger See

The Weßlinger See in the Fünfseenland is a small but lovely lake that many don’t have on their radar. Lucky for us – it means you can really enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
There are several shallow spots perfect for kids. At the Wasserberghäusl kiosk, you’ll find homemade lemonade and cake for a sweet break. And it’s not just a summer spot – in fall it’s great for biking, and in winter for ice stock curling. There’s always something going on at Weßlinger See.
