Are you looking for a nice excursion tip in Smaland? Then we would have a particularly picturesque and idyllic place that perfectly represents Sweden and its diverse nature and culture: The cultural reserve Stensjö by.
It is located just north of Kalmar on the east coast of Sweden and shows a fully preserved farm from the 18th and 19th centuries. Century. Old cereal and berry varieties are cultivated and maintained on the area. Traditional cattle breeds, pigs, sheep and chickens graze in the fields as far as the eye can see.
You can expect a Bullerbü idyll par excellence. The falun-red residential buildings, farmsteads and barns, together with the associated gardens and surrounding fields, could have originated directly from the stories of Astrid Lindgren. Even some scenes for “The Children from Bullerbü” were shot at this place.
A small museum on site tells the story of the people who once inhabited this courtyard. The village is accessible all year round, and several circular hiking trails lead through the adjacent forests.
Particularly recommended is the Viråslingan, our preferred circular hiking trail that orbits the village. This path leads along wild streams, past lush blueberry bushes, through fairytale forests and along sheep pastures. With a length of only 1.3 km and its varied nature, it is also an excellent choice for families with small children.
