The green oasis on the Seine with an impressive plant life!
The Jardin des Plantes (aka botanical garden) is a must as a destination in Paris with kids and for several reasons. First, the garden has probably the most extraordinary plants growing in one place, second, the animal world is also represented in a zoo in the middle of the park and third, the garden is a true hideaway from the city bustle and immerse yourself in nature.
While there is no playground, there is a maze and plenty of space, which is usually lacking in the crowded city center. In the Jardin des Plantes, you can take a relaxed stroll while the pathsides and flowerbeds present a wide variety of plants to admire – literally. Rare plants from faraway countries grow in the greenhouses.
Animal fans will certainly enjoy a visit to the zoo, but the entrance fee of 65 euros per family is no bargain.
Around-the-corner tip: Head down to the Seine and have an extensive picnic there. Everything you need for a French picnic can be found in the cheese store Fromagerie des 5. The family-run store is very friendly and just around the corner from the Jardin des Plantes.
