PARENTS GETAWAY IN MERANO – OUR TIPS AND HIGHLIGHTS

A relaxing weekend for two at VillaVerde.

You probably feel the same way as we do: at home, there is little room for quality time for two in everyday family life. Time together is the greatest gift and we take it once a year with a clear conscience and without kids. Then it’s a weekend vacation for Mom and dad. To recharge your batteries, relax, have long conversations and enjoy. In other words, there are just things on the program that we parents like.

In beautiful South Tyrol, where the climate is known to be always milder and the sun loves to drop in, hides a true pearl for your parent’s time out: the VillaVerde! For this charming and refreshing design hotel in Merano, it’s worth hiring chaperones for the kids.

Eltern Auszeit in Meran

A family-run design hotel in Merano full of woman power.

Where the hotel is not quite appropriate. Because 35 spacious feel-good apartments have been added to the historic Art Nouveau villa. They are available in different sizes, with a terrace with direct access to the garden or with a balcony. But they all have two things in common: the small kitchenette, for a cozy dinner including a mountain view and the tasteful interior. Soft colors meet wood and designer furniture meets vintage finds. Every corner shines in harmonious combinations, where everyone immediately feels at home. The knack for this ambiance can be attributed to the four hostesses of the house.

The woman power of VillaVerde is Mama Heidi and her three daughters Judith, Lea and Paula. Each of the four is involved in the hotel business with heart and soul. In addition, they provide their guests with the best insider tips from the region. They are all true Merano natives.

Their grandfather had the idea of reviving the Art Nouveau villa together. He definitely had a good nose for it, because since then the four of them have been enchanting all their guests with their female power.

The finest breakfast, for the slow morning in the mountains.

The energy refueling begins in the VillaVerde already in the morning. Preferably with a few yoga exercises on the footbridge over the natural pond in the garden. Meanwhile, the first birds are already chirping and the sun is slowly rising over the mountain peaks. Twice a week (Monday and Thursday) there are also free yoga classes at the hotel.

Relaxed it goes to the art nouveau villa, the heart of the house for breakfast. One may look forward to it in the VillaVerde completely particularly. The Buffet gives all possible delicacies from the region, which one can imagine. In addition on the biological origin of the food one pays attention. Also for Veganer, there is a large selection. Be sure to try the VillaVerde muesli and fresh smoothie! It tastes too good. If you want, you can order fresh waffles or egg dishes. After such a peaceful morning, you’ll be well-equipped to explore the surrounding area.

The VillaVerde – A place of rest!

In the afternoon the coffee house is waiting for you! The homemade cakes taste simply heavenly. Sit on the terrace, in the library, or in the beautiful winter garden. Be sure to take a look at the teapots (pictured below) – there’s only one thing that comes to mind: shock in love! By the way, the coffeehouse is also open to all visitors from the surrounding area.

Equipped with the fluffy bathrobes, it is then time to dive into the wellness area. Like the rest of VillaVerde, the eye is delighted at the sight of the delicate colors and high-quality materials. Relaxing on the soft loungers with a view of the blossoming trees is child’s play. In total, there are two saunas and a steam bath, as well as an interconnected indoor and outdoor pool. Everyone emerges from the wellness area with refueled energy reserves. To remove the last bit of stress from your body during your parents’ time out, we highly recommend massages and treatments. More relaxation on vacation is not possible!

Around Villa Verde – Highlights for the parent’s time out!

The great thing about VillaVerde, everything is in the immediate vicinity. Nature, city, and great cuisine. According to the motto “Get out there and explore” here are our highlights for the parent’s getaway in and around Merano!

Hikes in the mountains…

…you can start directly in front of the house. For example, the Algunder Waalweg and stop at the Gasthaus Leiter am Waal. This route is also highly recommended if you like to walk in the morning like we do. You look down into the Merano valley and jog next to vineyards. You will be accompanied by the murmur of water. If you want something more challenging, you can get inspiration from VillaVerde’s outdoor guide.

Restaurants that parents particularly like

The ladies of VillaVerde have also compiled their best culinary tips for where to dine in the area. We tried out several recommendations at once and were thrilled with every single one.

  • Dinner at the rustic Reichhalter in Lana: here you get what nature has to offer. Incredibly good!
  • Creative cuisine in the Lackner Stubn: walk 10 minutes and the most refined dishes land on your plate. The ambiance is so cozy that you’ll be happy to stay in your parents’ timeout after dinner.
  • Enjoy real Napoleonic pizza at 357: simply authentic and genuinely Italian is this Italian in the middle of Merano. Special attention is paid to the quality of the food.

Tips for wineries in the area

Wine is a natural part of South Tyrol. We know that you like wineries as much as we do. That’s why we have two special treasures for you:

  • Alois Lageder: A family winery that stands for biodynamic viticulture. In addition to a wine tasting, you can have a bite to eat in the courtyard among the lemon trees and then take a walk through the green park.
  • Manincor: a small and also biodynamic winery in Caldaro. You can get an idea of the manual work behind the wines before going to the tasting. Just walk through the vineyards.

On an aperitivo to Merano

The city center of Merano is worth a visit! The best way to get there is to take the bus, which leaves every 15 minutes. This way you are in the middle of the city in 10 minutes and save the search for a parking space. Take a stroll through the arcades, drink an aperitif under the arcades or eat a pizza, which is obligatory in Italy. There is a lot of Italian flair!

VillaVerde is your place to be for parents time out.

For us, VillaVerde is one of the most beautiful spots for a vacation without kids. Between mountains and cities, wellness and culinary you can really come to rest and enjoy without kids. Leave the everyday life behind you and spoil yourself with a vacation at VillaVerde.

VillaVerde with kids?

Many of you have asked us whether the VillaVerde is also suitable for families. Of course, the VillaVerde is child-friendly. From high chairs to children’s books, there is everything in the hotel. Nevertheless, the VillaVerde stands for relaxation and tranquility. So if you are looking for a beautiful design accommodation in Merano, do not need a playground in front of the house, because you like to get out into nature and discover new things during your vacation, you are right in VillaVerde. Because afterward the kids are allowed to splash around in the pool and play with each other in the house. During our stay, there were several families with kids between 0 and 12 years on-site, who all felt very comfortable. We think it is great that VillaVerde is a place of well-being for all generations.
