Ah, the joy of riding two wheels over the city wall in Lucca with children!
We all know that making sightseeing interesting for children can sometimes be a bit of a challenge. So, we thought we’d have a bit of fun and hire bikes in Lucca so we could explore the city together!
The really lovely thing about Lucca is that you can actually cycle on the old city walls! The view is absolutely amazing and the wide path is free of cars, which is great! Every now and then, you’ll find playgrounds or green meadows at the edge, which is really lovely. The great thing about this cycle tour is that it’s so varied and there’s something for everyone to enjoy. You’ll even find lovely little cafés built right on the city wall!
There are so many wonderful landmarks to discover on the cycle tour on the city walls! You’ll find the stunning San Martino Cathedral and the Guinigi Tower, which is covered in holm oaks and soars over 44 metres into the air.
After a great bike tour, it’s only natural that everyone is hungry! You’ll find delicious classic Italian pasta served up with a smile at Trattoria da Giulio. The pasta is freshly made and served without any frills, so you can enjoy it in all its glory! This is just the thing after a tour of Lucca with children!
We hired our bikes from the lovely bike shop La Toscana Nel Cuore. They have bikes with child seats, children’s bikes and helmets for hire. The wonderful Laurie knows the best routes through the city. It costs 4 euros per hour or 20 euros for the whole day to hire a bike.
