A trip to Siena inspires the whole family
In Siena you can spend a nice day with children. The city center is completely car-free. So you can easily stroll with the children through the many small streets. Sooner or later you will pass by the Piazza del Campo.
The semicircular square is surrounded by cafes and bars and is dominated by the city’s impressive town hall. The bell tower of Palazzo Principale is 400 steps high. Kids who are older than 4 years usually love to climb up. Once at the top you not only have a rewarding view, but the big bells are also close enough to touch. That impresses the kids! The view extends far beyond Siena’s city limits.
The second must-see in Siena is the cathedral. From Piazza del Campo to the Duomo, it is well worth a visit to one of the restaurants in the small side streets, for example in Via del Capitano. New energy does not harm the visit to the cathedral. There is a lot to see. Also for kids it is nice to visit the cathedral. For example, many animals can be seen on the floor on the walls and sometimes even on the ceiling. The game “I see something you do not see” takes on new dimensions in the Cathedral of Siena.
Thus, Siena is ideal for a family outing. The city is very beautiful with numerous old buildings, manageable size and with the two buildings mentioned above an imposing sight that should not be missed and where children can enjoy sightseeing.
Good to know: At various entrances to the old town there are escalators leading to the high-altitude old town. If you park at such an entrance than use the chance of the escalator.
