Hiking with Kids in South Tyrol: The WoodyWalk on Mount Plose

WoodyWalk: Play Your Way to the Summit

Hiking with kids in South Tyrol can be so much more than just “up and down.” Our tip for all little explorers and their grown-ups: the WoodyWalk on Mount Plose – a family-friendly themed trail that combines play, nature, and panoramic views in the most joyful way.
The adventure begins with the ride up on the Plose cable car, which takes you straight into the mountains above Brixen – and right to the start of your alpine journey.

On the WoodyWalk, the path itself becomes the highlight. Along the trail, you’ll find wooden play stations, fountains to splash in, little slides, and even a Kneipp basin for brave parents. Who needs extra motivation when the trail is this much fun?

Depending on how many play and discovery stops you make, the hike takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. One thing’s for sure: boredom doesn’t stand a chance. And the best part? The route is stroller-friendly and great for younger kids too – with gentle slopes and lots to explore along the way.

Panoramic mountain views accompany you every step of the way – a true gift for nature lovers, big and small.

Scenic Break: Rossalm Mountain Hut

At the end of the WoodyWalk, you’ll reach the rustic Rossalm – the perfect place to rest and recharge. With a large sunny terrace overlooking the Geisler Peaks, South Tyrolean specialties taste even better. Kids can keep playing on the on-site playground with a trampoline, and for those who never want to leave – there are beautifully designed rooms for overnight stays.
You can head back to the cable car station via the same route or take a slightly shorter option along the forest road.

Our conclusion: A family hike with guaranteed favorite-place status

The WoodyWalk on Mount Plose has been one of our all-time favorite family hikes in South Tyrol for years. It’s a perfect mix of movement, play, nature, and good food – and one of those trails that never gets old, no matter how often you visit.
