Family Holiday Near Venice: Camping Ca’ Savio

Where lagoon, sand and city life come together

Share with family and friends

Anyone planning to experience Venice on a family holiday quickly realises how important the right place to stay is. Somewhere that balances out the city’s lively pace. A place where children can roam freely while parents finally get a chance to breathe. Camping Ca’ Savio does exactly that. Unpretentious, close to the sea, with plenty of space, pools and the option to dip into the kids’ programme as much – or as little – as you like.

One thing to know: this campsite is big. Really big. Not a small, hidden retreat, but a vibrant holiday universe for families from all over Europe. And that’s precisely what makes it work. The grounds are divided into different areas, allowing everyone to find their own rhythm. Those looking for peace can retreat, while anyone craving a bit of buzz will find that too.

Our clear recommendation is the glamping area or the small holiday homes, which are surprisingly affordable. Set slightly apart and nestled among pine trees, they offer just the right balance between privacy and that classic camping feeling. Standing barefoot outside the tent in the morning, coffee in hand, while the kids are already off exploring. That’s when holiday mode kicks in – even before the day has really begun.

Location

The location is hard to beat. The ferry to Venice departs just nearby, making a trip to the lagoon city easy and relaxed. No searching for parking, no city traffic. Instead, a boat ride that feels like a gentle transition. You wander through narrow streets, treat yourselves to a gelato, soak up the atmosphere – and then return to a place that smells of the sea, pine trees and summer. And the next day? You simply stay by the beach, the pool, or somewhere in between, with views across the lagoon.

Accommodation

As large as the campsite is overall, the atmosphere within each area feels pleasantly clear and well defined. Whether you’re staying in a glamping tent, a nice lodge or another type of accommodation, life here feels easy and closely connected to the outdoors. Distances are short, routines make sense, and nothing feels over-staged. One of the loveliest moments is early in the morning, when you open the door and life begins right outside. No corridors, no lifts – just pine trees, sand under your feet and children already on the move. For them, it’s an adventure. For parents, a little taste of freedom.

Kids

Here, children are simply allowed to be children. The beach starts right behind the dunes – wide, natural and free of neatly lined sunbeds. Digging, running, jumping into the water, climbing out, going back in again. In between, an ice cream, a stick that turns into a sword, an afternoon that organises itself. The pool areas are lively, with water games and slides, yet never feel overwhelming.

Water & Little Breaks

Two pool areas are spread across the site, nestled among the trees. Splashing in the morning, heading to the sea in the afternoon – or the other way around. Those who wish will find quieter corners where life naturally slows down. There’s no sprawling wellness complex here, just simple, honest relaxation. Shade beneath pine trees, a book resting on your lap, your gaze drifting while the children are happily occupied. You can feel shoulders drop and thoughts begin to slow.

Venice as a Family Adventure

One of the greatest draws is the proximity to the lagoon city. From Punta Sabbioni, boats take you straight to Venice. The journey itself already feels like part of the adventure. Children count passing boats, watch the seagulls. Once in the city, it helps to explore early in the morning or later in the day. We’ve put together more tips here: Visiting Venice with Kids. A short walk, an ice cream on a quiet campo, a vaporetto ride – and then back to the sea. That way, Venice stays magical and never becomes overwhelming.

Little Discoveries Nearby

The region has plenty to offer beyond the city as well. Cycling along the lagoon, boat trips to colourful islands like Burano, where houses look like building blocks. Or simply a day spent entirely on site, because no one feels like leaving.
