South Tyrol feels like it was made for families who love to dive into nature and enjoy incredible food along the way. Framed by the dramatic Dolomites, wildflower meadows, and crystal-clear mountain streams, you’ll find mountain huts that spark wonder in kids and offer parents a true moment of calm.

Whether you’re hiking with a stroller, a carrier, or little adventurers already exploring on their own, hiking with kids in South Tyrol becomes a real adventure when there’s a welcoming hut waiting at the end – one that makes everyone happy. We’ve handpicked the spots that do just that, with playgrounds, animals, homemade South Tyrolean dishes, and plenty of heart.

Here are our favorite family-friendly mountain huts in South Tyrol – the kind of places you’ll want to return to again and again.

Allriss Alm (Pflerschtal)

The Allriss Alm sits tucked away on the edge of the forest – a true family spot.
The trail up to the hut follows a kid-friendly forest path that’s even doable with an all-terrain stroller.
At the top, you’ll find a small playground, a sunny terrace perfect for a break, and a few curious goats to watch.
The South Tyrolean dishes are hearty and local – think speck, dumplings, and cakes just like Nonna used to make.

Rossalm (Plose near Brixen)

You’ll reach the Rossalm via the WoodyWalk, one of South Tyrol’s most beautiful adventure trails for kids.
The path is dotted with climbing elements, wooden sculptures, and water play stations.
Once at the top, you’ll find a spacious sunny terrace, an epic playground, and jaw-dropping mountain views.
The kitchen blends South Tyrolean flavors with Italian favorites – and the cappuccino is absolutely top-notch.

Haidenhof (Lana)

A true hidden gem along the Waalweg: at Haidenhof, kids can pet animals, you can take a break under the apple trees, and the playground is just the spot for a little fun.
Technically, Haidenhof isn’t a mountain hut but a traditional Buschenschank – yet it deserves a place on this list because the view over the Merano region is simply stunning.
The menu is small but carefully chosen, with both cold and warm dishes and hearty South Tyrolean snack platters.
The daily specials are always worth a try, and if it’s the right season, don’t miss the apricot dumplings.
The wine is excellent and comes from the family’s own vineyard.
