Family Holidays with 80s Vibes & Dolce Vita on South Tyrol’s Most Charming Farm
If you’re looking for the good life between farm and horizon, you’ll find it at Schnitzbichlhof in Lana. With Karin and Julian, who took over the farm from Karin’s father and lovingly renovated it in recent years, you feel at home from the very first moment. Together with their little son, they live a dream here that blends rural tradition with modern design.
Schnitzbichlhof is a place that brings both worlds together: rooted in farming, yet full of boutique charm. Nestled among apple orchards and vineyards, it’s where children run barefoot across the lawn, parents savor a glass of wine on the terrace with sweeping views, and small moments suddenly become big. Everything a family holiday needs to be more than just beautiful, but truly memorable, comes together here as if by nature.
Location
Schnitzbichlhof sits on a gentle rise above the rooftops of Lana, with a panorama you’ll want to frame and take home. Yet cafés, the Pfefferlechner, and a taste of Italian dolce vita are only a short stroll away. Just next door, the Brandis Waalweg winds through the landscape like a green ribbon. It tells the story of centuries-old irrigation craft and today makes for the perfect stroller- and family-friendly path, where chestnuts crack underfoot, water trickles beside you, and time seems to flow at its own pace.
Stay
From Karin’s father’s farmhouse, and in collaboration with the architecture studio Biquadra, five spacious holiday apartments and one double room have taken shape. Original features were lovingly restored, wooden floors refreshed, and vintage pieces integrated, then paired with modern contrasts and bold colors. The result: apartments that weave retro details from the 80s with contemporary design.
Each apartment comes with a kitchenette, balconies that open onto sweeping mountain views, and some are located right by the pool. Traveling with grandparents or friends? The extra double room is a welcome addition. And because Karin and Julian are far from finished, new feel-good spaces are always in the making — with a sauna and a children’s playground already on the horizon.
Kids
The spacious garden is a kingdom for kids, with plenty of room to run, play, and explore. In summer, the pool quickly becomes the number one hotspot. The fact that little ones can climb straight from the water into a deck chair beside mom and dad makes the whole place wonderfully easygoing. And then there’s Berkie, the farm dog, whose loyal nature soon turns him into a true holiday friend.
Culinary Delights
At Schnitzbichlhof, the day begins just as you’d wish on holiday: with fresh bread rolls delivered right to your door. Everything else for breakfast—creamy yogurt and fresh milk, crunchy muesli, homemade jams, and good coffee—awaits in the little farm shop. Everyone can put together their own favorite breakfast, just the way they like it.
But it’s not only in the morning that the shelves are worth a look. You’ll also find pasta, sughi, wine, and of course the farm’s own apple juice, made from Karin and Julian’s orchards. Many of the products come from friends and local producers who share the same passion and care.
If you’re in need of a little break during the day, head to the communal room on the ground floor. At the honesty bar, you can pour yourself a juice or a glass of wine, and around the long tables, cheerful gatherings often come together all on their own.
What Makes It Special
What truly sets Schnitzbichlhof apart is not only the holiday apartments but the people behind them. Karin and Julian are hosts you really get to know.
