From downtown Lisbon to the ocean, it’s barely more than 60 minutes. But as soon as you arrive at this sustainably built design hotel nestled in the dunes, you’ll feel it: Areias do Seixo doesn’t just look beautiful — it feels that way too.

This is a place that truly understands the need for peace, beauty and slowing down — even with kids. Especially in the family villas, just a few steps from the main house, aesthetic design, nature and a sense of comfort blend into something truly magical. There’s no need for constant entertainment here. Instead, everything flows in an atmosphere somewhere between boutique style, bohemian spirit and natural serenity.

Location

Areias do Seixo is located north of Lisbon, nestled in the dunes of the Atlantic coast, with views of pine trees, the ocean and the horizon. The beach is just a short walk away. The surrounding area is quiet, untouched and open – ideal for anyone travelling with children who doesn’t want to compromise on atmosphere. The houses themselves feel like an architectural retreat.

Villas

The family villas are spacious, filled with natural light, and so beautifully designed that every corner offers a warm visual touch. With three to four bedrooms, an open-plan living area with fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen and a terrace that naturally extends daily life outdoors, they offer everything you need to feel at home.

Natural materials like wood, linen and stone bring a quiet warmth to the space. In the garden, a solar-heated pool shimmers in the sun, surrounded by the scent of trees and plants and an open view all the way to the Atlantic. If you love cooking outside, the outdoor kitchen will be your favourite spot.

Breakfast & Food

Breakfast is served in the glass-walled Greenhouse, a light-filled pavilion in the heart of the garden, surrounded by lavender, rosemary and open space. Inside, you’re seated among cardamom plants and exotic trees. In the morning, golden light spills across the tables — almost as soothing as the first cup of coffee.

What’s served comes straight from the garden and is handmade with care: still-warm Pastéis de Nata, sourdough bread, homemade yogurt, ripe fruit from the trees, and local cheese. All beautifully presented on a long, help-yourself table. If you like, the kitchen will also prepare fresh pancakes and eggs to order.

In the evening, if you’re cooking in the outdoor kitchen, you can order a grill basket or a picnic filled with regional delicacies, fresh vegetables, fragrant herbs and fruit. Even almonds in the shell are included as a little snack. Or you can head to the hotel’s restaurant, where the menu is as laid-back as it is full of flavour. And because the vegetables come straight from the biodynamic garden, they’re packed with pure, natural taste.

Kids

Scattered across the grounds are a trampoline, a slide, tipis and hammocks. Kids can hop on a pedal go-kart, ride off, or simply wander barefoot through the dunes all the way to the beach.

The activities? Relaxed, thoughtful and full of space for spontaneous moments. Children help out in the garden, pick herbs, collect eggs or join in on a treasure hunt. There are creative workshops in the studio and open-air yoga sessions where downward dogs are crooked and there’s absolutely no pressure to get anything “right.”

If you’re in the mood for waves, head over to the Noah Surf House. This sister property right on the beach offers surf lessons for kids and families. The sessions are run by professional and wonderfully warm-hearted instructors who teach with patience, energy and a deep love for the sport. They check the conditions daily and always bring good vibes — making every session both safe and seriously fun. Surfing is the only activity that needs to be booked and paid for separately – all other experiences are included in your stay.

Wellness & Spa

In the spa area, everyday life stays outside. Wood, steam, soft light. You can book a massage, relax in the sauna, or swim a few laps in the adults-only pool. In the morning, yoga takes place in the garden — surrounded by bamboo and the gentle sound of birdsong.

Right next to the Greenhouse, you’ll find three outdoor pools: one for the little ones, one for splashing around, and one with bubbles for a proper soak.

And as the day slowly winds down, everyone gathers around the Circle of Fire. There’s singing, dancing, and bread roasting over the flames while the sun sets over the Atlantic. One of those evenings you’ll always remember.

Sustainability

Areias do Seixo was built with a strong focus on environmental protection, local materials and resource-efficient technology. The garden is organically cultivated, the electricity comes from renewable sources, and the architecture is designed to work with nature not against it.
