And the short hike there is just as beautiful!

Share with family and friends

Just outside Bayrischzell, where the train tracks end and the mountains begin, a family-friendly hike kicks off that’s perfect even with younger kids in tow.

No fuss, no summit cross – but everything families really need: fresh air, easy paths for little legs, and a destination that satisfies more than just hunger. There’s space to play, and with a bit of luck, even some animals to meet. Siglhof delivers on all fronts.

Skip the parking, start the adventure – arrive by train

If you like, leave the car behind and hop on the train – the hike from Bayrischzell station leads straight into this little outdoor adventure. Less than ten minutes in, a waterfall tumbles over rocky steps, and turquoise pools shimmer between moss and stone.

From there, the well-marked trail continues for just over 2.5 kilometers, always following the signs toward “Hochkreuth.” Yes, the path climbs a bit – but not enough to spoil the mood. It’s that perfect balance of effort that makes reaching the top feel even better. And let’s be honest: when there’s a Kaiserschmarrn waiting for you, every step feels a little lighter.

Forest paths, green meadows & a glimpse of goats

After a short gravel climb, the trail softens and slips into the shade of the forest, gently guiding you step by step. Then, just as suddenly, the view opens up. Lush green meadows stretch out before you, and your gaze drifts up to the Wendelstein peak.
And there it is – almost hidden in plain sight: the Siglhof. A mountain café meets working farm, promising hearty homemade fare. There’s a playground, goats, chickens, wide-open meadows – and all the space kids need to just be kids.

And then? A relaxed stroll back down

Once everything’s been explored, the Kaiserschmarrn devoured, and the animals properly admired, it’s time to head back. The return follows the same path down into the valley – easier going downhill, and with full bellies, the pace is naturally more relaxed.
If you like, pause again at the waterfall or collect sticks, stones, and little stories from the day along the way. And by the time you reach the station, one thing’s for sure: this was a perfect family day trip.
