Mystical Gorge Hike – A Hit Even in Rainy Weather

When fine mist settles between the steep rock walls, drops fall from above and below, and the roar of the Breitach drowns out everything else, the gorge reveals its own kind of magic. The Breitachklamm is no quiet nature retreat – it’s a true spectacle. And one that captivates children and adults alike.
A Natural Theater of Rock and Water
Over thousands of years, the Breitach has carved its way through solid rock, creating one of the deepest gorges in Central Europe. The trail winds along narrow, secured walkways through the tight canyon, past thunderous cascades, across small bridges, and through misty spray that sparkles on your lashes. Sturdy shoes or rubber boots are a smart choice here – and don’t forget your rain jacket.
Especially on rainy days, the gorge reveals its most dramatic side. The water level rises, the roar grows louder, and misty clouds of spray give the place an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. For kids, it’s a real nature adventure – damp, exciting, and up close with the power of water. The trail is well secured and easily manageable for eager young hikers.
Scenic Spot to Take a Break
After so much fresh air and fascination, a stop at Alpe Dornach is well worth it. Enjoy homemade cakes, regional specialties, and a sunny terrace with one of the most stunning views over the Stillachtal valley. There’s plenty of space for kids to play – and perhaps an extra-large Kaiserschmarrn as a well-earned treat.
