For a time out in Hamburg go to Hotel Wedina!

There are still the hidden and still central gems. In four houses of the Hotel Wedina in the heart of Hamburg, city trips and closeness to nature can be wonderfully combined. On one side of the front door is the Außenalster with its sailboats and Alster steamers, on the other the hustle and bustle of the Lange Reihe of the St. Georg district.

When you enter the Hotel Wedina in the red house – the heart with the reception, the library, the breakfast rooms and the wonderful garden – you immediately know it’s all about literature at Hotel Wedina. At breakfast you may find yourself sitting next to one of the many authors, whose autographed books you’ll find on the huge shelves. Kirsten Boie or Isabella Abedi, whose stories have a firm place in the hearts of kids, have already been guests at Hotel Wedina, for example. The huge stock of books in the entrance area is the result of a cooperation between the hotel and the Hamburger Literaturhaus. Authors and actors find a home at the Wedina, a place “to be,” and in return fill the book wall with their autographed works.

At Hotel Wedina the “away from home” is found by families in 3-, 4- or 5-bed rooms. It is anything but an anonymous hotel. You find rather individual spaces for precious family time. You climb the wonderfully restored old building stairs into rooms that are furnished with lots of natural materials and very cozy. The rooms facing the green backyard surpass the rooms facing the already very quiet street. In the Urban XL studios of 40 sqm is also a small kitchen integrated.

At hotel Wedina you get a rich breakfast buffet. While we parents enjoy it in the winter garden or garden, the children may help themselves in the library or out in the garden. For the “little hunger” in between the kids can always get a waffle or ice cream. For the grown-ups there is a small menu with quiche and co.

In the evening, the St. Georg district in Lange Reihe invites you with an insanely colorful selection of Indian, Portuguese, Spanish or Greek restaurants. Or – if you are already in Hamburg – you can try the specialties of the Hanseatic city. When the weather is nice, the gastronomy of the sailing and rowing clubs in the first waterfront location with the best view on the Alster has dinners for the whole family.

On rainy days, there are many museums just around the corner that will fascinate young and old alike. The Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe has its own floor of interactive art just for the kids. Or the Museum of Illusions is unique and definitely absolutely something for all family members.

The Wedina is very easy to reach on foot from the main train station and from here you can get everywhere by public transport. By bus 6 you get to the Hafencity, which is known especially among families for the best playgrounds in Hamburg. The Binnenalster with many shopping opportunities is also just a walk away. But the most beautiful shopping is to be found anyway in the neighborhood of the hotel Wedina. Special things made in Hamburg can be found in the flagship store of Mutterland or the Hamburg Kaufhaus – fish made of chocolate, a candy bar bigger than the kids and really individual souvenirs.

Or perhaps one of the beautiful shoppers hanging in the rooms in matching colors to the houses in the Wedina will become a very special family time-out souvenir. You can get it at the reception before you leave. The kids can choose a button in the colors of the houses for home instead of Smarties. The words on it will remind everyone of a very special weekend at Wedina, “Time to be”.
