If you’re looking for a truly family-friendly mountain destination in Austria, Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is the place to go. This region in Tyrol offers everything parents and kids could wish for and even more. One of the best-known features is the underground mountain railway in Serfaus, something you won’t find anywhere else. With the Super. Sommer. Card., which you can get for a small fee at selected partner accommodations, you can enjoy free rides on the underground train and cable cars along with many other discounts.
Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis is made for family holidays. It’s an adventure paradise that gets even the most reluctant walkers moving. To help you get started, we’ve collected our personal highlights for families in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis.
Here’s a little preview of what’s waiting for you:
an underground marmot tunnel system, a peaceful mountain lake perfect for swimming, a gold-panning station, a wooden marble run, a treetop rope park, speedy summer toboggan runs and themed hiking trails created by children’s book author Thomas Brezina.
Traffic-free and relaxed – stroll, enjoy, take it all in
In Serfaus, you can leave the car behind. Everything is easily reached on foot, by underground train or by bus, and that’s exactly how it should be. The village center becomes a shared space where there’s plenty of room to stroll, relax and slow down. Instead of a parking lot in front of the cable car stations, you’ll find a beautifully designed square with fountains and water jets—a perfect way for kids to cool off on hot summer days. After a hike, it’s the perfect spot to wind down with a scoop of homemade ice cream. That’s what we call true quality of stay.
Families can also take advantage of a free childcare service in the region. Make the most of that time for yourself—maybe for a mountain bike ride or a peaceful yoga session by Lake Hög, while your kids are in good hands. Everyone gets what they need.
Murmliwasser: water fun and marmot adventures
Start your day with a ride on the new Komperdell cable car in Serfaus. You’ll probably spot a few mountain bikers loading their bikes and oversized helmets into the gondolas—a sight that often leaves kids wide-eyed with amazement.
At the top, the next highlight is already waiting: the first glimpse of Murmliwasser, an adventure area like no other.
Follow the signs and step into a world full of water play, hidden underground tunnels, and real marmots that little ones can watch in awe. One of the most exciting spots is the Murmli Rodeo, where speed and skill come into play—perfect for adventurous kids aged six and up.
Hungry in between? A small kiosk offers tasty snacks to keep everyone’s energy up. You can easily spend half a day here without anyone getting bored for a second. If you’re still up for more, continue your day with a family hike along the Pirate Trail toward Lake Hög.

Pirate Trail: On a Treasure Hunt with Thomas Brezina
One hike you definitely shouldn’t miss is the Pirate Trail, created by Austrian children’s book author Thomas Brezina. The adventure starts conveniently right at Murmliwasser. Armed with a sticker booklet – available for just three euros at the valley station ticket counters, the Murmliwasser kiosk, or one of the three info points (with proceeds going to a good cause) – you set off on your treasure hunt.
There’s lots to do along the way: kids search, count, guess, and solve tricky puzzles to uncover the hidden treasure at the end. The most exciting part? Picking the right treasure chest! And even if you get it “wrong,” you might be greeted by a silly-looking ghost that’s sure to make everyone laugh.
Good to know: the trail is stroller-friendly | Distance: 2.5 km | Duration: 1.5–2 hours | Age recommendation: 3+ years | Link: www.serfaus-fiss-ladis.at
PS: If you haven’t heard of Thomas Brezina yet: he’s the author of my favorite childhood book series, “No Boys Allowed! – Witches Only!” Still a brilliant read for kids 9 and up – full of humor and a healthy dose of chaos!

Bike Tour to Wolfsee: Pure Nature and Wild Discoveries
The adventure begins with a ride on the unique Serfaus underground railway – a driverless, air-cushion cable train running through a 1,280-meter-long tunnel beneath the village road. It connects the parking area in the east with the church, town center, and cable car stations in the west. Along the way, kids can enjoy various play stations near the U-Bahn stops.
From the underground station, head over to the Scott Test Bike Center, where you can rent mountain bikes for exciting tours – including e-bikes if you’re planning a longer ride. A great route takes you to Wolfsee, a peaceful natural gem in Fiss that you can reach in about 30 minutes. Around the lake, you’ll find fun facts about bears, lynx, and wolves – along with interactive play stations that make the visit even more exciting. While swimming isn’t allowed in Wolfsee, it’s perfect for dipping your toes and soaking in the calm, alpine atmosphere.
