On the Quiet Joy of Being on the Road Together
Nestled in the heart of the East Tyrolean mountains, Hotel Tillga Glück is a retreat run by a warm and welcoming family. Since taking over the hotel in 2019, they have completely renovated the house and thoughtfully adapted it to the needs of today’s travellers. Every room carries a personal touch and has been designed with great care.
The name “Tillga Glück” came about almost by chance after the family took over the hotel. For them, however, it has come to symbolise the happiness they feel in being able to call this special place their home. Throughout the hotel, small details reflect this sense of joy — like the little box in the wardrobe that gently reminds guests to slow down, take their time, and savour the moment.

Arrival & Atmosphere
Happiness begins quietly here. With the opening of the door, the first glance into the spacious rooms, the feeling that there’s nothing you need to perform or live up to. The interiors are warm in tone, free from decorative distractions. Small details invite you to pause — like the beautifully crafted wooden game boards in the room. In the afternoon, a gentle gong sounds, inviting guests to a phone-free hour. No pressure, no finger-pointing. Just a friendly reminder that happiness often appears when we put our phones aside for a moment.
Location
Obertilliach lies in the East Tyrolean mountains, where you can already sense a hint of South Tyrolean flair — which you can even see from here. It’s a place shaped by the commitment of its residents, by traditions and old smuggling stories. On Friday evenings, the traditional night watchman even invites visitors to join him on his round through the village. Everything feels wonderfully unhurried and, precisely because of that, truly special. In short: happiness in its simplest form.

Rooms & Living Spaces
In addition to hotel rooms, Tillga Glück also offers apartments. Whether staying in a room or a self-contained unit, you can feel the joy of leaving things out. There is plenty of light, clear lines, and materials that are allowed to age gracefully. Many balconies are fitted with swings — small sources of energy for big thoughts or quiet evening conversations, sitting there wrapped in the view of the mountains. The apartments, each with their own kitchen, offer space for families who enjoy cooking together or travelling with friends.

Family Friendliness
Tucked away beneath the staircase is a playroom waiting to be discovered. Outside, there’s a small playground with a trampoline. The host family lives on site with their four children — and you feel it not through signs or rules, but through the way things work. Through patience. Through the quiet understanding that children are simply part of the whole. Happiness here isn’t silent — it’s alive.

Wellness
The indoor pool offers space to play and to simply drift along. Perhaps followed by a short visit to the sauna or the quiet room. Nothing elaborate, nothing overstated. The wellness area isn’t a destination in itself, but a space in between — just right after a day spent outdoors.

Cuisine
Breakfast is regional and thoughtfully curated. Fresh bread, good products, time at the table. You tend to linger a little longer — because it’s worth it. In the evenings, the kitchen deliberately stays closed. Instead, the hosts share their favourite recommendations in the village. Gasthaus Unterwöger or Hotel Weiler are just a few steps away and serve excellent East Tyrolean cuisine.

What to explore around Tillga Glück
A real stroke of luck for families is the close proximity to the cable car. Without needing a car, you can head straight up to the Children’s Mile at Golzentipp. At the top, paths combine sweeping views with playful activity stations. And our favourite tip, straight from Katrin herself: the Vitalpinum. A truly special herb garden where you can slow down and explore the world of medicinal plants with all your senses.
