We’ve just made an exciting new discovery in Austria. Let me introduce you to Burgenland! This region is a hidden gem that attracts visitors with a diverse range of attractions, from stunning natural scenery and relaxing spas to enjoyable experiences and historic palaces and castles. But what makes Burgenland so special is its diversity. It’s a region that is very different from the rest of Austria, far away from the mountains, but full of local treasures. Our advice is to go there! It’s got an incredible amount to offer families with kids.
Burgenland is not just a region, but a way of life – full of warmth, enjoyment and natural beauty.
Before we dive into all the amazing places in Burgenland that are perfect for families, let’s take a quick look at the easternmost federal state of Austria. Here, the landscape is mostly flat and the Pannonian climate is mild, so the temperatures are pleasant. You get to know Austria from a whole new side. The last foothills of the Alps say goodbye here with gentle hills and open the door to a unique natural landscape, lined with nature parks, castles and palaces, wine-growing areas and kilometre-long cycle paths.
But Burgenland is not only a beautiful place to visit, it’s also really easy to get around. It’s just a short trip from Vienna, Bratislava and Graz, so it’s the perfect place for a nature holiday. You can get to Burgenland easily by train or car, and you can explore the region on your own by car when you get there.

A real children’s game is how you’ll find culture in Burgenland!
At Esterhazy Castle, they know what kids are interested in and have put together a family tour based on some really exciting castle stories. The kids can find out how a servant should behave, what the prince’s kids had to learn and whether there really is a ghost at Esterhazy Castle. They can also find out why the castle dog was called Trampel. The kids can try on different roles and get to the bottom of this in a fun way. Culture is definitely fun for everyone!
