A Holiday on the Streckhof, with a 1,200 m² Garden

Tschardakenhof in Lutzmannsburg is a listed double Streckhof — a traditional long farmhouse — that host Patricia discovered in 2020 and brought back to life, award-winningly, in 2021. Five apartments, each with its own name and its own history. A garden bigger than some playgrounds. And a room called the Kramasuri, which we’ll tell you more about in a moment. All in all, a thoroughly cosy home away from home.
Location
The farmhouse sits right in the centre of Lutzmannsburg, the oldest wine-growing village in Blaufränkischland in Central Burgenland. With around 300 days of sunshine a year, the region has earned the nickname “Sonnenland” (Sun Country), and Tschardakenhof sits conveniently in the middle of it all: ten winegrowers are within walking distance, and the Sonnentherme thermal spa is just 1.5 kilometres away.
Accommodation
The double Streckhof brings together historic living quarters, stables and barn wings. Out of these have come five charmingly restored apartments, each sleeping up to six people — Anger, Weinkeller, Viecherei, Hofstatt and Troadkasten, each named after its original function. Every apartment has a fully equipped kitchen, box-spring beds, and the option of shared or separate sleeping areas for quieter nights. An EV charging station for cars and e-bikes is included, and dogs are welcome on request. The farmhouse has carried the Austrian Ecolabel since July 2025 and has been BETT+BIKE-certified since 2022.
For kids
The heart of the place is the 1,200-square-metre garden, essentially a second living room under the open sky, with a barbecue area, a snack garden and a herb bed. In the Kramasuri, board and card games, books and puzzles are on hand for rainy hours. And if the kids fancy a swim: the Sonnentherme Lutzmannsburg, with Austria’s longest slide, a wave pool and its own baby world, is just a few minutes away.
Food
Mornings start without any buffet crowds: a breakfast basket with regional produce is delivered straight to your apartment, with no time pressure at all. Having your own kitchen keeps the rest of the day flexible too — no restaurant stress if one child gets hungry early or tired late. In the Kramasuri there’s a small wine corner with frizzante as well as red and white wines from Lutzmannsburg’s winegrowers, plus regional juices for the kids. Anyone wanting to head out in the evening will find the village’s Heurigen wine taverns and inns within walking distance.
Nearby
Lutzmannsburg makes a great base for relaxed days out. Bicycles and e-bikes are available on site, with the first use free when you have the Burgenland Card. Gentle, paved cycle paths like the Sonnenland Tour or the Liszt cycle route wind through the vineyards. The Burgenland Trails and the rail draisines on old train tracks add plenty of variety. Patricia knows all of this first-hand and can point you towards the best local insider tips. And that, in the end, is exactly what turns a place to stay into a true favourite spot.
