MamiConnection is a network for new mums. You are looking for like-minded mums who share similar interests and live in the same city? Then the plattform MamiConnection is the answer. Sabine and Charlotte, the founders of MamiConnection, faced exactly this challenge when they became mom. Their core project grew out from the initial idea of bringing mums together. We met Sabine and Charlotte for the first time at the blogger conference in Vienna in the spring of 2019. Quickly we found out that we have a lot in common, not only the founding date of our projects and our roles of being mompreneurs but also having the ambition to inspire the life of young families!
Get to know Sabine and Charlotte a bit closer in our interview.
Please, tell us about you and your idea of MamiConnection. Who are the mums behind MamiConnection and what can mums expect from MamiConnection?
Sabine: MamiConnection, this is Charlotte, mum of two girls (2 and 6) and me, Sabine, mom of a boy (5). We live in Cologne. When my son was born, I was the only one with a baby in my circle of friends and at the time I wanted to have a mummy friend with the same aims for exchange. The idea of a community with a matching system was born. This is what MamiConnection came to be. In 2018 we launched the network.
Charlotte: With MamiConnection we want to enable moms (and moms-to-be) to get in contact with other mothers in their home area. At the heart of our community, the MamiConnection, you as a mum can individually filter information according to certain criteria, such as postal code, age or number of children. So you can relax and connect with like-minded people online and socialize with them or create a support group – be it on the playground around the corner or a coffee at home. In our blog we share private snapshots of our everyday challenges and very typical topics of being a mum. So you get valuable tips and suggestions about everyday life with your little one(s).
What is your personal MamiConnection?
Sabine: We live in the same district in Cologne and have made friends in the classic way, watching our children play together on the playground. The idea of creating a network for mothers had been in my mind for a while. Soon it was clear that Charlotte is the perfect partner to implement this together.
Charlotte: We both actually had a blog before and are originally from marketing. We therefore have all essential skills to promote our ideas digitally. And like many other moms, we decided to try something new during parental leave.
What are your favorite places with your family in and around Cologne?
Charlotte: Cologne really has a lot of green space for a big city. Therefore, if the weather is good, I would cycle with the kids across the greenbelt and either go down to Rodenkirchen to have a picnic by the river, or if we do not want to go that far we’ll stop at one of the beautiful playgrounds along the way. But my favorite place is the city forest. There is a great playground right next to the zoo where we often go.
Sabine: A trip to the Gertrudenhof on the way to Hürth is always worthwhile. For a coffee we like to go to the café Fräulein Frida. In bad weather, we also like to go on the climbing wall (“bouldering”) in the Stuntwerk and combine that with a meal at our favorite Italian restaurant Purino, which is next door. And since my son has just learned to swim, we are looking forward to the summer and visiting pools in Cologne and lakes in the surrounding area where swimming is allowed.
What does a perfect family day in Cologne look like for you?
Charlotte: For me, a perfect day starts very slowly and with a relaxed breakfast. During the week we don’t have time for this, so we are always looking forward to the weekend. Then we do something together – my family loves cycling, so it would probably be a bike ride. After all, we go for a pizza at our favorite Italian restaurant around the corner – and friends who feel like joining us are always welcome. Tired out, the children go to bed without any fuss, so that we have time to work – at least that is the idea.
Sabine: Okay, we like to start the day with a relaxed breakfast with fresh bread from the bakery – sometimes out of town, e.g. in the Café Sehnsucht, before we go into the countryside. No matter what is going on in Cologne, we focus on spending quality time together, which is in short supply during the week. We love to end the day in one of our favorite restaurants.
What are your plans for MamiConnection?
Charlotte: MamiConnection should continue to grow and thrive. We are always looking for new opportunities of cooperation that help our users – be it within the community or on the blog. We are planning further exciting MamiTalk events, all over Germany. And then there is still the idea of developing an app, as well as a community for daddies. So there is much to do ….
Sabine: I don’t want to add anything. We want to offer our users more and more valuable ideas whenever possible. Feedback is very important to us. MamiConnection is a network of mothers for mothers. Each may contribute with questions or tips. By linking to other portals like to you, the urban kids, we each benefit!
