Boat trip across the Königssee
The adventure begins with a boat trip, and not just any boat. Traditional electric boats have been travelling on the Königssee for over 100 years, and they’re a sight to behold! The boatman is a real character, full of stories about the Königssee and its secrets. The kids will love it when he pulls out his trumpet in the middle of the water to create the famous echo of Lake Königssee. The sound of the trumpet echoes several times between the steep rock faces.
Nature paradise Obersee
Our top tip: hop on the train to Salet, where you’ll find a truly magical natural paradise. The path to Obersee is lovely and flat, and it’s great for kids! You’ll be amazed by the incredible, almost surreal landscape along the way. It’s like something out of a fairy tale! A tiny corner of Scandinavia has been transported to Bavaria. The Obersee is a sparkling, crystal-clear lake nestled between mountain slopes. Unpack your picnic blanket, sit down on the shore and soak up the breathtaking silence. You can stay here for hours, just looking and enjoying. The brave can even take a dip in the cool water – a refreshing reward after a short hike.
The magic of St Bartholomew’s Church
You simply have to make time to visit St Bartholomew’s Church on your way back. It’s an absolute must! This world-famous pilgrimage church with its red onion domes sits picturesquely in front of the imposing east face of the Watzmann. But it’s the little things that make the moment perfect! Grab a freshly prepared fish sandwich from the local smokehouse, sit on one of the benches behind the church and let your gaze wander over the lake. The combination of crusty bread, freshly caught fish and the stunning scenery is simply unbeatable!
Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time to soak up the incredible natural beauty of the Königssee. It’s not a place to rush through! You’ll want to linger and enjoy every moment, every corner and every story.
