A Storybook Farm – Only More Real.
At Mächlerhof, the scent of fresh hay mingles with the soft creak of wooden floors, gentle mooing drifts from the barn while bees hum in the distance – it’s a small, soulful universe that takes its time and invites you to do the same. Julia & Stephan run the farm with such warmth and care that you feel at home from the very first moment. Nothing staged, nothing over the top – just real, vibrant, and full of heart.
A place where families can breathe deeply and everyday life takes a well-deserved pause.
If you’re dreaming of a family farm holiday in the Allgäu, this is it: not only will you find a truly authentic farmhouse apartment, but also charming tiny houses nestled in the green.
Location: In the Heart of the Allgäu – and Happiness
At 870 meters, on the southern slope of the legendary Auerberg, Mächlerhof sits quietly tucked away in a small hamlet. Rolling hills unfold in front of your windows, while the Alps rise behind – and on clear days, you might even spot Neuschwanstein Castle or the Zugspitze on the horizon. You can leave the car behind and simply start walking: hiking, biking, or just barefoot wandering across the meadows – the Allgäu begins right outside your door. We’ve collected our favorite day trips here.
Farm Life: Right in the Heart of Country Living
At Mächlerhof, you’re more than a guest – you become part of daily life on the farm. No scheduled participation times, just genuine encounters with animals, people, and nature. The day starts with a friendly “mooo,” a rooster crows somewhere, and if you listen closely, birdsong fills the air. Here, being present means watching, wondering, and soaking it all in.
Between November and April, kids can visit and gently pet the animals in the barn. In summer, the animals graze on nearby pastures – easy to reach on foot and beautiful to watch in peace. Helping out with the chores isn’t part of the program – the farm runs at its own rhythm, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. Stephan regularly offers horse-drawn carriage rides, usually between Sunday and Wednesday – a real highlight for children and grown-ups alike.
Mächlerhof gifts families those quiet, meaningful moments that speak louder than words. And that’s the real magic: the beauty of simplicity becoming something truly unforgettable.
Where You’ll Stay: Sustainable Hideaways Full of Character
All seven accommodations at Mächlerhof are surrounded by nature – simple yet complete, with everything you need and nothing you don’t. Whether you’re in a tiny house overlooking the meadows and mountains, a cozy apartment for two, or a spacious maisonette above the old stable – every space is a home away from home with its own charm.
The three maisonettes offer plenty of room to breathe. Eselliebe, located in the historic farmhouse, is perfect for couples or parents with one child – and comes with a large private sauna to help you unwind. The loft-style Heustock and Kuhglück maisonettes sit above the former barn and are ideal for families with two (or three, upon request) kids.
In the three tiny houses, simple living becomes a quiet luxury. Two of them have a wood-burning stove for cozy evenings. The family-friendly Sternenhimmel tiny house sleeps up to two children who are confident with stairs and ladders. The other two are perfect for couples or solo travelers seeking peace and quiet.
And breakfast? It’s delivered in a lovingly packed basket right to your doorstep – best enjoyed slowly on your private terrace with a view of the green.
Food: Honest. Simple. Truly Good.
At Mächlerhof, everything served is made with love and meant to be enjoyed with a good conscience. Ingredients come from the farm itself or from likeminded locals. Milk from their own cows? Not here – it’s reserved for the calves. But other things taste even more genuine: hand-stirred jams, oven-fresh bread, or meat from animals raised right on the farm.
When it’s cooking day at the on-site restaurant, the whole farm fills with the scent of herbs and hearty dishes. Meals are prepared with passion, served without fuss – but with lots of flavor.
For more flexibility, there’s a small farm shop stocked with lovingly made products: sausages and meat from the farm, homemade pasta, and pantry jars filled with goodness.
A Place for All Your Favorite People
Mächlerhof isn’t a polished petting zoo nor an adults-only retreat – it’s a place where generations naturally come together. For families who want their kids to experience real farm life. For parents who want to sip coffee while watching their little ones explore freely. And for anyone who believes that a family farm holiday in the Allgäu doesn’t require much – just time, nature, and togetherness.
There’s no scheduled entertainment here – just inspiration. No fixed program, but all the space you need. From the first “good morning moo” to gazing at the stars above your tiny house – every day here is full of quiet little moments that stay with you long after you leave.
And when the day winds down and everything at Mächlerhof falls quiet, you’ll feel it too:
This is what a real vacation feels like.
