Ice in hand, toes in the water – summer mode on

After a fun-filled day in Pfronten, if you want to unwind, head straight to Lake Hopfensee. The water sparkles, the mountains reflect on its surface, and with the sun on your face, it almost feels like Italy.
The lake promenade is perfect for a stroll with kids who still have energy to burn – and of course, for enjoying some ice cream. Our tip: ice cream from Seaside – super tasty and right by the water. If you’re up for it, grab a pedal boat at Marina Hopfensee – Boat & SUP Rental and paddle across the lake together.
Cool off & keep it short
For the brave ones: swimming is allowed in the lake, so don’t forget your swimwear! Kids love jumping off the jetty or just splashing their feet in the water. Especially after a hike – like the Jewel Trail on Breitenberg – a lake stop is the perfect way to unwind.
Around Pfronten, lakes are practically lined up like fingers on your hands – so just pick your favorite lake and go.
Another classic: Neuschwanstein Castle
If you’re already in the area, you can’t miss Neuschwanstein. From Lake Hopfensee, you can even spot some of its towers in the distance. But here’s the thing: you don’t have to join the crowded tourist lines. Our tip for families who want to avoid the hustle and bustle: head out in the late afternoon – ideally around 4 PM. Take the bus to Marienbrücke, enjoy the castle views, and then stroll back along the forest path.
