A slow-paced family moment with four-legged company

It feels so good when everything can slow down for a while. No rush, no “Hurry up!” – just nature, gentle trails, and two long-eared companions who truly understand the art of slowing down.
Donkey hiking with Nici is one of those special experiences. Nici calls the Allgäu her home – deeply connected to the region and to the four-legged friends living on her farm. Her donkeys – four in total – are well cared for, well trained, and simply the kind of companions you love to walk alongside.
Arrive, connect, and set off
Before the walk begins, there’s time for brushing and bonding. Gustl, the tall and calm donkey, stands patiently while little hands groom him. Klausi, the smaller one, is curious and often has his nose in the grass – which is exactly why the kids adore him.
Nici calmly explains how to lead a donkey and what to keep in mind – and then off you go. The walk takes about an hour and leads you right into the heart of the Pfronten moorlands. One of the kids gets to ride on Gustl, with a swap halfway through. Both people and donkeys take a break together – by a small pond, with scenic views and a picnic vibe.
Long-eared characters with charm
As you stroll through the greenery with your four-legged companions, Nici casually shares fascinating facts along the way. Like how donkeys prefer to observe before they react – which is why they’re often unfairly labeled as stubborn. Or how they hardly drink in summer, getting most of their hydration straight from fresh grass. And that there’s more going on in those clever heads than you might think.
What lingers is a truly soothing feeling.
Just a few steps further, you’ll also find the friendly glassblower Alexander and the Allgäu Butterfly Experience World.
