Visit to the Glassblower in Pfronten: Fire up your very own favorite glass

The coolest workshop stop in Pfronten

Looking for a family experience beyond playgrounds and petting zoos? Then Alexander, the glassblower in Pfronten, is your guy. No museum, no showroom – just real workshop vibes with a craftsman who’s passionate about his art and knows exactly how to share that spark with kids.

You’ll feel it as soon as you step inside: the atmosphere is relaxed. Glass objects, tools, bottles, and colorful raw materials are everywhere – and right in the middle, there’s Alexander. Craftsman, tinkerer, and laid-back storyteller. A bit like a modern-day Geppetto – only with a gas flame instead of a workbench.

Hands-on instead of just watching

What often feels like decorative make-believe at many “craft experiences” is taken seriously here: kids don’t just get to watch – they actually get to join in. Alexander explains in a fun and easy way what glass is made of, why a drinking glass is totally different from binocular lenses – and that the flame on the burner easily reaches 2,500 degrees Celsius.

Then it gets real: while Alexander shapes the glass at the burner, the kids get to blow. And just like that – a simple glass cylinder turns into a seriously cool, one-of-a-kind drinking glass. Not a pre-made souvenir, but a true original.

The visit lasts about an hour – perfect as a mini highlight in your family itinerary. And yes, the finished glass comes home with you. It’ll look great in your kitchen cupboard and bring a bit of that workshop magic back with every sip.

Two Just-Around-the-Corner Tips

Just a few steps away, you’ll find yourself immersed in tropical warmth: at the Butterfly Experience World, colorful butterflies flutter through the humid air, creating a true rainforest vibe – right in the heart of the Allgäu.

A little further along, you’ll meet Gustl and Klausi – two laid-back donkeys who love taking you for a stroll through the greenery. It’s an experience kids adore – and grown-ups too. Click here for the donkey walk.
