Cool adventure playgrounds in Munich with children

Our kids love adventure playgrounds – and so do we. Because what’s better than watching them play as they dive into imaginary worlds, invent their own rules, and get completely lost in their play? Luckily, there are several places in and around Munich where this is possible. Here are our favorite adventure playgrounds in Munich with kids, which not only captivate with exciting play equipment but also with their location and atmosphere.

Josephsplatz – Climbing, Swinging, and Market Visits Included

The playground at Josephsplatz is one of our all-time favorites. It’s centrally located, thoughtfully designed, and offers plenty of space for climbing, sliding, and balancing. In addition to a separate area for toddlers with a nest swing, slide, and climbing structure, there’s a section for kids around three years old with age-appropriate play equipment.

What’s especially nice: every Tuesday, there’s a weekly market right on the square with local products – perfect for a little snack after playing.

Suitable for: Toddlers & Preschoolers

Adventure Playground at Olympiaberg – Hidden & Versatile

The playground on the slope of Olympiaberg is a true adventure paradise – and almost a hidden gem. Nestled between trees and trails, there’s a play area with a treehouse, suspension bridges, a small ship, and a huge hemisphere that even skilled kids can climb.

Another plus: right nearby is the Olympiaalm – a rustic beer garden with views of the lake and TV tower. Perfect for a little break with Kaiserschmarrn or lemonade.

Suitable for: Kids from 3 years old

Wiener Platz – Urban Oasis in the Heart of Haidhausen

Just a stone’s throw from the bustling Wiener Platz, this green, spacious playground is nestled in the family-friendly neighborhood of Haidhausen. As soon as you step through the entrance gate, it’s peaceful – the city feels miles away.

For babies, there’s a swing, and for older children, there’s a slide, seesaws, and small playhouses. In the summer, the large lawn is perfect for a picnic in the shade of the trees. This is where the neighborhood comes together – in a relaxed atmosphere.

Schliersbergalm – Playground with Mountain Views and Sledding Fun

A little outside Munich, but absolutely worth a day trip: the Schliersbergalm above Lake Schliersee. Here, you’ll find not only a playground with a forest backdrop and panoramic views, but also a summer toboggan run, trampolines, and the Alpenexpress – a mini train ride across the alpine meadows.

The grounds are child-friendly, spacious, and offer plenty of opportunities for active fun. And while the kids jump, sled, or climb, parents can enjoy the view of the lake.

Berry Café – Playground & Berry Bliss in One

The berry cafés around Munich are not your typical adventure playgrounds, but they offer a unique experience for families. Between fields and beds, a lovingly designed play area awaits: a Bobbycar course, a giant wooden tractor to climb, a straw maze, and a sand-water zone with mini pools.

While the kids play, parents can relax with a coffee – and then pick berries together for a cake at home. A must-do in the summer!
