THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LAKES AROUND MUNICH

Lakes to splash and enjoy with kids!

Finally, it is time again, the bathing season is open and kids are looking forward to the first jump into the lake.

We are absolute fans of the countless lakes around Munich and regularly plan a family trip to our favorite places on the lake. The children splash  in the refreshing water and we enjoy the relaxed family time to the fullest. With the beautiful Alpine scenery in the background holiday feelings come up. A charming beach with restaurant, sand and beach chairs is our preferred place to be.

We tell you the most beautiful places for your next trip to the lake with your kids.

Starnberger See – beachbar with playground

The hip Schwaiblbar is hiding at the Ambach campsite. A relaxed atmosphere, delicious drinks and food local and organic ingredients make the beach bar a cozy place. The kids love the huge sandbox with the big wooden horse and various sand toys. In addition, there is a play cart with countless board games, a trampoline and a small chicken coop. The Schwaiblbar is located in the immediate vicinity of Lake Starnberg and the Ambach recreation area. There are several sections of the lake shore where you can sit down. It goes quite shallow into the water, which is ideal with children. If you are looking for a change from swimming, there is also a SUP rental right on site. So during the family time out, relaxation is guaranteed for everyone! Click here to go to your favorite place.

Wörthsee – Seekiosk Rossschwemme

The Seekiosk Rossschwemme on Wörthsee is a great destination for families with children in summer. On the huge lawn right next to the lake you quickly find a shady spot and the children can immediately splash in the shallow lake.

The kiosk offers dishes like sweet potato fries, tarte flambée, coffee from Dinzler and much more. Right next to the kiosk is the children’s playground.

Osterseen – dive into the idyl of nature

You want to spend some relaxing hours at the lake, away from the hustle and bustle of the beach and outdoor pools? Then a trip to the Osterseen with children is exactly what you need. The Easter Lakes consist of a continuous chain of small lakes and ponds, they are located south of Lake Starnberg in absolute idyll surrounded by pristine forests and meadows.

Chiemsee – Seewirt’s Strandhaus

The south shore of Lake Chiemsee near the small village Übersee is very nice for a day trip with your family. From the highway it is easy to reach and shortly after the departure there are parking possibilities. You go along the Julius Exter promenade.

Soon you come across the first restaurant, Seewirt’s beach house, with inviting lounge chairs on the terrace right on the lake. We prefer to go further. Shortly thereafter follows a playground for the children. Climbing tower, rocking animals and slackline invite you to play. What a fun with a view of the lake to swing a round!

Steinsee – one day vacation at the lido

Heading to Munich’s southern lakes at the weekend is usually a poker game. Traffic jams for kilometers, eternal search for a parking lot and overcrowded sunbathing areas are not uncommon. For this reason, we are big fans of heading off in other directions. A favorite place for this is the Steinsee in Ebersberg. The outdoor pool directly on the lake is a family oasis. The sunbathing lawn stretches down the hill to the lake and continues along the shady shore. We like to find a spot under the many trees right by the lake. It’s wonderfully relaxing by the water. It feels like a day of vacation!

Starnberger See – Beach Bar zum Kleinen Seehaus

The summer is especially enjoyable at the Kleines Seehaus (means small house by the lake) at lake Starnberg. The Kleine Seehaus welcomes its guests right on the lake, with stunning views of the water and the Alpine scenery in the background. Feel the holiday vibes!

Sun loungers and a sandy beach invite you to relax as if on the beach. The Beach Bar offers coffee and drinks. Hungry swimmers can get some food on the kiosk. Visitors enjoy a daily changing menu that ranges from king prawns and classic burgers to salads.

Weitsee – two birds with one stone: hiking and swimming

The family hike to the Weitsee starts in Reit im Winkl and is about 8 km long. Be sure to pack your swimming gear in your hiking backpack to take full advantage of the crystal clear water of the Weitsee. The bathing area at the Weitsee can already be seen from a distance. The children’s anticipation rises and as soon as the swimming trunks are finally put on, it’s off into the cool water. The mountain lake is an absolutely wonderful place for a long break after the family hike in Reit im Winkl.

Ammersee – enjoy relaxed family time!

If we go to the Ammersee with children, a visit to Lenas am See is indispensable. At any time of year, they serve the finest food that the Ammersee and the region around it has to offer. For families, the restaurant is a special place to really enjoy family time. Right next to Lenas am See, by the way, is the Standbad Utting. When visiting the Ammersee with children, these two favorite places can be combined perfectly.

That was the compilation of our favorite lakes near Munich. On our website you will find many more excursion tips for families. Take a look and let us know where you like to spend the weekend.
