Our favourite things to do in Schladming-Dachstein with kids
Schladming-Dachstein is a region where family travel naturally happens outdoors. With plenty of nature, short distances and experiences that truly engage children, it works just as well for a single holiday day as it does as inspiration for an entire week. That is exactly why we have gathered our favourite things to do in Schladming with kids here.
Many of these experiences are part of the Schladming-Dachstein Summer Card attractions. As always, you will find details, opening times and the latest information directly on The Urban Kids.

1. Hopsiland on the Planai
Hopsiland is a true paradise for younger children. Playful stations with marble runs, climbing structures and plenty of space to explore make the mountain feel easy and accessible. Perfect for first summit experiences and relaxed family time in the mountains.

2. Sattelberghütte & Nature and Environmental Experience Trail
An outing that brings together nature knowledge and movement. The Nature and Environmental Experience Trail around the Sattelberghütte explains how nature works in a playful way. No raised fingers, just plenty of small aha moments for children. Afterwards, the hut invites you to stop for a bite, with traditional Styrian specialities.

3. Mountain Carts on the Hochwurzen
The Mountain Carts take you speeding down into the valley, fast but controlled. A real thrill for both children and parents. Anyone who knows the Hochwurzen knows that there is something happening here all year round. In winter, the mountain turns into one of the region’s most popular night toboggan runs.

4. Waldhäuslalm: Petting Zoo & Fishing
The Waldhäuslalm is a favourite among day trips in Schladming, a place where children are simply free to be children. Petting animals, fishing at the pond, playing outdoors. For parents, it is one of those places where time suddenly seems to slow down. Ideal for a relaxed day out without a fixed programme.

5. Café Artisan in Schladming
Our favourite spot in Schladming with kids for a short break in between. At Artisan, you will find excellent coffee at any time of day, handmade croissants and a relaxed atmosphere. Perfect for a moment to pause before or after an outing. Especially easy with children, as the owners are parents themselves.

6. Fairy Tale Trail on the Rittisberg
The Fairy Tale Trail on the Rittisberg can be enjoyed all year round. In summer, it is a gentle themed path; in winter, it becomes part of the ski area. Storybook stations give children new goals along the way, turning movement into play. A true classic among things to do in Schladming with kids.
In winter, the Rittisberg also transforms into the perfect ski area for beginners.

7. Alpaca Walk at the Klausnerhof
A true favourite for families in the region is the alpaca walk at the Klausnerhof. Walking alongside these soft, gentle animals through fields and forests naturally slows everyone down, children and adults alike, creating space to pause and take in the surroundings. The alpacas bring more than just good cheer; they are wonderfully patient and a joy to spend time with along the way.

8. Dachstein Bad Ramsau
The Dachstein Bad is ideal for days when you feel like taking a break from being outdoors. An indoor pool, children’s pool, slide and a wellness area for adults make it a true all-round destination for families. Especially with younger children, it is a wonderfully relaxed addition to the programme.

9. Wollis Kids Park in Haus im Ennstal
Wollis Kids Park is located right next to the Hauser Kaibling cable car. So far, we know it from winter, when children can practise their first ski turns there free of charge. In summer, we are told, the park transforms into a large adventure area with a tubing track, petting zoo, paddle boats and an e-trail course. Children from the age of three can also take their first trail rides on bikes here.
10. Up High: Dachstein Glacier
A trip to the Dachstein Glacier is always a special experience. The cable car ride, the sweeping views and the glacier landscape feel extraordinary. Even for children, it is memorable simply because everything here is so different from the valley below. A fitting finale to a week of exploring Schladming-Dachstein.
